Need some education about fenders - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Hey all,

I'm trying to find out which fenders are different than others. I am mostly concerned with '69 through '72. I would think all Chevy fenders are the same from '69 through '72, but what about GMC?

Will GMC fenders interchanged with Chevy fenders?

Right now I have a '70 Chev, a '70 GMC, and a '72 GMC. I haven't yet decided what grill to use on my project truck, but am about ready to take the cab and front clip to the body shop and would hate to take the wrong fenders.

LOL! I do this all the time....

there is a lot of good info on the board to keep us from bangin heads on the wall(ouch). CPNE has been around the horn.....even if he does only build stockers:p (razzin you man

Are the GMC and Chevy radiator supports different? Different bolt patterns?

Rad cradles are different...easiest way to tell is a two headlight assembly compared to a 4 headlight GMC rad cradle, and who's that Rod guy,.. he must know a thing to two also...LOL.

Ok, since I'm asking newbie questions today... can anyone explain to me the difference between a high-hump and low-hump cab? I'm assuming it has to do with the transmission tunnel, and would think maybe the 4x4's had high humps? How can I tell what I have by looking? And the most important part of this question.... does it affect the "doghouse" in the firewall for engine clearance?

Its all about trans clearance, the 4x4s, & the 4 spd 2wds had the high hump. I think I have heard that the BB 2 wds also had a high hump(could be due to eng /trans height?) At any rate, if you pull the carpet or mat back, the high hump is a bolt in deal. The low hump floor is all 1 pc.....crazyL

High hump;

High humps were supposedly only in the 4X4 trucks, 4 speed trucks, trucks that were big block/automatics, or any combination of the 3.
However, there's been some odd things come up, like the fact that the high hump in the second pic is my GMC with a V-6 and a TH400....but Chevyfatman has a 69 GMC (same as mine) that is a 305 V-6 and TH400...yet it has the low hump.

There's also been people say they have seen or even owned big block trucks with small humps...
I doubt we'll ever know...kinda like the hole in that high hump...it is original, yet no one can explain why it is there, nor ever remember seeing one like it.
