Hidden spare + no cab tank + 20 gallon capacity = reality?
Is there any way to get rid of the cab tank and still carry a spare? I don't care if it's a full size spare or not. Just something to get me home.

I've thought about putting a donut spare behind the seat. Not sure how to fasten it down so it doesn't roll around back there.

Sure! Just throw it in your bed, easy-peasy.

That's funny. I don't know if I would trust a tire that I baked several hundred times.

If you have a five bolt, grab a donut and mounting hardware from a 91-96 Caprice/Roadmaster. 5x5 bolt pattern. Don't run it on the rear if you have posi.

Re: Hidden spare + no cab tank + 20 gallon capacity = reality?
where do you put it? That is the question. I can't see any tire fitting behind the seat where the tank that took the spare's space was.

...as the OP... What I was looking for was to free up room in the cab. I'd rather have speakers back there than a gas tank or a tire.

You'll wait a lot longer than 45 minutes using AAA when you don't have a spare for them to mount

That idea to go in front of the wheel house is the best idea. I was going to use a Suburban well but it was more work that I wanted to do

Not really a great pic but you see part of the tank behind cab where it will be mounted to flat bed. If you don't need bed space put tank there.

I'm going to put a rear mount tank in mine and was thinking donut spare behind seat. Thanks for the info on which car the right donut is in.

I suspect you aren't a stepside guy, so yes, you have a challenge.
How about a custom-made fuel tank, which surrounds the driveshaft forward of the rear axle. This would give you more security from a rear ending and allow easy access to your spare which will be close the the rear bumper and "hidden" under the bed. |

I heard that a donut from an Astro van will fit as well.

Re: Hidden spare + no cab tank + 20 gallon capacity = reality?
That's a full size tire and it can fit under the lip of the bed but doesn't stick out the bottom. Totally hidden from the passenger side view and a tonneau cover can still go over it. This still may happen this winter on mine.

Suburbans (at least 1990/91) have this but no water drain without removing a rubber plug.

Get AAA. Call if you have a flat or breakdown.

Would a donut fit next to the frame in front of the wheel well? You'd have to fabricate a bracket, but it might work.
