Re: right place ?? interested in buying this truck....

I'd say go for it especially since its a swb 4x4, but I've got a soft spot for gmc's. Other than the doors and the floor it looked to be a good truck just my .02.

Re: right place ?? interested in buying this truck....

Seems fair to me. Theres a similar looking truck on my craigslist that's nearly double the price, but doesn't look as good.

Re: right place ?? interested in buying this truck....

What I'd pay and what it's worth are rarely the same. I search/watch ebay for completed and sold listings to see what others are paying for trucks in similar condition. I'm ok with paying a fair price, but overpaying makes enjoying this hobby a bit more difficult.

Re: right place ?? interested in buying this truck....

Ebay is a very poor reference for real life values. For one thing, there are local sales and there are online sales. Then there are straight out sales and there are auctions (where you don't see or hear your competitor). This is a local straight sale and Ebay is an online auction. On a local sale location plays a part in value. That truck back East is worth more than right there. One reason is transportation has to be added and another is you won''t find one that decent sitting around in the first place.

I'm not out there, but I would say in the $3,500 range would be a decent price. But Ebay and websites like this have helped homogenize pricing, so under $5k is good. Fact is, you found a SWB K1500 GMC that is very restorable and they are highly desirable. You are fortunate to be allowed this much time to ponder it.

Other than model#/VIN, look and see if the frame has been shortened, if it's from a '73-up, or is spring mounts and crossmembers have original rivets.

Re: right place ?? interested in buying this truck....

If it is the truck you want I'd say just pay what it takes to make it yours. If you wait too long his patience will run out and it will become someone else's... No way to put a true value on it but he's not really out of line in what he is asking.

Re: right place ?? interested in buying this truck....

As Special-K said 5k or under would be good for what the truck is, not many of these left around.

Note: You may or may not find a partial vin# on the frame, I have heard that some GMC's had no vin on the frame !

The 67-68 GMC also did not have a SPID.

The 5K is fair price for that truck in the area that it is.

Re: right place ?? interested in buying this truck....

GMC is a little different than Chevy:

K= 4wd
E= V8
1= 1/2 ton
34= 70-71 fleet side
Z= Fremont
Z= 1970

The rest is the serial number !

If the spid sheet is there the Mod# will tell you if it a SWB or LWB truck. 57= SWB, 59= LWB.

Well being I owe the wife now it's gonna be fix/tune up/get dependable n drive it as is... Gonna patch rocker n POR it for now till I can get it fixed correctly... I see the parts are stupid cheap so I'll get people to get me stuff for Christmas/birthdays etc... Once she's paid back then I can dig a little deeper but it won't ever be a show/restored truck cause I'll never have or make enough money for that... Thankfully I'm in Arizona so not to worried about it rotting away like back east... First thing I'm doing is getting the engine clean so I can see leaks etc then work on getting HEI,PLUGS,WIRES,CARB(?),BELTS,HOSES ETC.. get it safe ... Do new brakes etc...
