Will The Tranny Drop???
Gonna tear the engine outta my 72 tommorow night, and ive got an issue. im not 100% sure, but when i pull the engine, does the tranny need to be supported by something? I really hope it can support itself, as the truck will need to be moved occasionally over the next few days without the egnine in it. if the tranny does need 2 be supported, any ideas of what i can rig up to make this thing movable? any thoughts/ideas are greatly appreciated. thanx

Yes, the tranny will drop. You have to use a floor jack to support it when you remove the engine. I always take a piece of wood or pipe that as wide as the frame, side to side. Put two long bolts through the bellhousing bolt holes. Lay the pipe or board on top of the frame, right in front of the tranny. Let the bolts stick out and lay on the pipe or board.

you can use rope or a chain underneath the tranny to hold it up too. But, I always find the rope or chain let the tranny sag and then the torque converter falls out onto one of my sandals. Torque converters are heavy.

I took a piece of angle iron and clamped it to the frame under the trans pan with visegrips....

Chuck, you crazy hillbilly.
Just watch, you're going to be searching all over your shop for the vicegrips someday because you forgot where you put them. Just hacking on you man.

I usually use a long hunk of baleing wire tied to the cowl vent, but then again, I'm not worried about paint getting scratched.
