Schematic for courtesy lights

Does anybody out there have a simple schematic for a set of under dash curtesy lights, that work off the door switch? I used to have one but can't find it

Re: Schematic for courtesy lights

A google of the subject you ask for shows a surprising lack of good info. Or if it is out there, it is difficult to find. So, I am not surprised you ask. I don't yet have courtesy lights, but I will be getting some soon. Here is something: http://www.painlessperformance.com/Manuals/30708.pdf

The basic idea is: the door jamb switches when the door is opened (or the headlight switch when it is twisted all the way to the left) connect one terminal of the dome light to ground. The other terminal of the light is always connected to 12V. So connect one terminal of each courtesy light to the same 12V source where the dome light is connected. Connect the other terminal of each courtesy light to a door jamb switch.

Re: Schematic for courtesy lights

Hope this helps. The first link is the post from Roger Koop and the under dash light wiring he sells. I used this on my truck and it was plug and play. The second link is a thread I started trying to figure out where to mount the wiring.

I can post pics of the lights installed tomorrow as the puics are on my home computer.

That is an interesting kit. It would be nice to see where exactly that plugs in, and a photo of that connection.

I will do that tomorrow. If you have the factory door jamb light switches its piece of cake.

Get out and drive the truck this summer and have some fun!
It sucks not being able to hear!

LWB trucks rule, if you don't think so measure your SWB!
After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: Schematic for courtesy lights

This is great. Thanks to all. Now I can get my lights installed. I've only had them in a box for about 20 years.

Just unplug the connector the door jamb wire is going to and plug in the new harness connector and then your under dash and dome light will come on at the same time.

Re: Schematic for courtesy lights

That looks like a lot of wires and connectors, considering how they are going to just 2 extra lights. I will need to build up the nerve to get that going in my truck. I need to look around under my dash to see how my door jamb switch wires are routed. The connectors that allow you to just plug into the existing harness are pretty nifty. Thanks for posting those pictures.

If your truck has the original door jamb switch and the wiring hasn't been altered you will figure where to plug in and out within 5 minutes.
