Re: Bolts for tailgate center trim

The tailgate band attaches with stainless steel screws, which screw into a kind of nut plate on the back of the band. I don't know the size, although I think I still have the original ones somewhere in the shed - leftover after I sold my tailgate and went to the plain look. LMC does sell them, but I don't know the quality of the stainless or if they are even stainless.

Re: Bolts for tailgate center trim

Thanks for the replies guys reason why I was asking cuz I scored a tailgate band for my 73 C10 in excellent condition for $70... i did pay more for it if you want to include time i spent in LA traffic lol..... I didn't even realize the bolts were there so all I have to do is measure and drill and I should be good to go

Now.... i do have to some cleaning up but its a good part

Re: Bolts for tailgate center trim

The part is not faded at all but it definitely has a few scratches I think I'm going to have to take some sandpaper to it I'm just wondering what grit I don't want it to be too bad I wanted to look as close to them as possible I'm thinking maybe 320 Grit on the jig so I can keep the lines as straight as possible

Any ideas what grit was used in these bands

Re: Bolts for tailgate center trim

Before you put too much work into it, make sure it fits your gate. I know when you put an earlier tailgate band on a newer tailgate, the band is too narrow. I don't know if any problems come up if you put the 81 and up band on an 80 and earlier tailgate

Unbelievable like you said it doesn't fit the question I have is it seems that the bracket is easily removed from the band but what style or size bracket would I need to fit on my 73 the bracket is way too big and needs to be about an inch smaller

Well I just took the back of the band off and try to line up the actual band on my tailgate and even if I swapped back brackets that band is just way too thick it sticks out on the edges it doesn't sit flush so I found one office 77 that I will pick up tomorrow I will try both ways and see what happens
