69 C10 shortbed -whats it worth?

This truck was on ebay and I met with he seller and looked it over the best I could considering it was dark. It was on ebay before and didn't meet his reserve, as well as this time. He wants $14,500 for it. My wife and I are looking for a Sunday cruiser/hot rod. I have had a few 90s k1500s and a dozen third gen camaros but we are looking for something a little older.

main points:

-It was "restored" at a camaro shop about 10 years ago.
-couple year old blue print 383 from summit
-muncie 4 speed
-side markers are "shaved", same with mirrors
-runs and drives well.

Whats it worth? It doesn't seem like there is a big market for the non factory trucks.

Thanks

Re: 69 C10 shortbed -whats it worth?

Im guessing he will get his price so long as its at least matching VIN, frame shortbed and not a hack job.

Re: 69 C10 shortbed -whats it worth?

The cab and frame vins matched but the SPID was for a long box with a different vin. The second plate below the vin plate on the cab was missing.

Re: 69 C10 shortbed -whats it worth?

Does everything work on it? (Turn signals, lights, horn, etc?). Disc or drum brakes? I've been looking for a while and that seems like a pretty fair price if it's what you're looking for and it doesn't need too much work to be roadworthy.

Re: 69 C10 shortbed -whats it worth?

I believe it's worth the asking price. There's at least that much or more just in paint/bodywork, engine/trans, and interior. If it doesn't have disc brakes and power steering, I'd make an offer of $13K and use that as a bargaining chip since that's the most sought after options. If it already has it, then offer $14K and see if he's firm on that extra $500.

Sounds like a pieced together truck. Is the frame cut? I would not give half what he is asking .

Re: 69 C10 shortbed -whats it worth?

I dont believe the frame is cut, I'd have to look again. It has power steering and brakes, disc in the front, drum in the rear. Speedometer recently stopped working other then that everything works.

$14,500 ? On what planet ? Not even 1/2 that on a good day . If it was a 67 or 72 and cleaner maybe but a mid model year somewhat custom ? Never .

It's worth what someone is willing to pay.

Someone will pay his asking price or close to it.

If it was lowered with 20's it would have already sold.

If I wanted a 69/70 I'd give 8k for it......IF I could get a refrigerator magnet to stick on it!

Re: 69 C10 shortbed -whats it worth?

there could be 14k in it but just like my 69 once it is custom it loses value you can dump 20 in it and you would never get it back but the real question is do you want it and are you willing to pay for it because yes it has money spent on it so it is worth 14k but only to someone that wants it. myself i like custom over factory so to me ya its worth it all day for the money that was spent on it. but i would keep it and not try to resell cause then it would be a loss. smell what i am steppin in

Re: 69 C10 shortbed -whats it worth?

It looks solid but unless thats exactly the truck you want and you like hows its been done I'd pass. If you've got 15k to drop then you can find a nicer truck. If you're worried a whole lot about what it will be worth down the road then you should find something closer to stock. Customs will almost certainly lose value from what they cost to put together. The guy probably does have 14k in it but I don't see anything that amazing about the truck. I can go to a local car show and see 3 or 4 custom c10s that looks more or less identical to that for half that price.

Re: 69 C10 shortbed -whats it worth?

I keep seeing a lot of people saying if it's custom you'll never get your money back. Unfortunately it does not matter if you build a bone stock truck or a custom you will lose equally on both. The main difference with customs is that people usually spend a heck of a lot more on them than stock ones, thus the larger amount you won't recover. It all boils down to what someone is willing to pay for it. Some freak out and won't touch a truck that's been customized. As long as it's not a hack job I am okay with it because most of the time it's fixable and can be negotiated when buying it.

My main thing is rust. But if the price is right it does not scare me away completely because I know how to fix it.

I would say he is probably on the high side of average for that condition truck, but not by a lot. I'd say in the $13k range. These trucks have gone up in price & will continue to do so. If it's what you want, go for it.

My $0.02 for what it's worth

My $0.02 for what it's worth

I have built quite a few trucks over the years and can honestly say that I have never lost money on a truck I have sold. I buy them reasonable (usually abandoned project trucks) and do all of the work myself. I do not build show trucks because that is where you can spend the big bucks. I reuse a lot of original parts by restoring and rebuilding them. I do not need or want the latest and greatest wheels and other bling. For years I had a good source of used parts at reasonable prices, unfortunately that has disappeared in the last year. I save all of my receipts and keep them in a folder in the trucks so I or my family know exactly what I have in any given truck....

My '67 Panel Truck is going to be another story, I over paid for it because I couldn't find a decent one, it has a lot of modifications that are not easily reversible, and I have put more cash money in it than almost any other truck I have built. The only saving grace is that I will keep it until I can't drive any more....

To the OP: If you have looked the truck over good and you are happy with it I would say buy it, or make an offer on it and let him set on it for a while. Call or stop and talk to him every once in a while and see if he has decided to accept your offer.

Thanks for all the responses. I am going to make him an offer and leave it at that for now. I can live without it, I started this search for a 4x4 anyhow but this one really caught my eye.

Re: 69 C10 shortbed -whats it worth?

I think it's funny that this truck is being called "custom." It has a cowl hood and ralley stripes! Custom is a chopped top, shaved door handles, roll pans, raised bed floor, cut up frame, crap you can't easily change.

Yes, I understand that since it's not 100% bone stock it can be called Custom, but this one really isn't. I'd even say this truck is far from custom, it's even stock height. Every ounce of custom can be removed from this truck for a $100 good used hood and $3-500 to a good painter. This one has just been a little "personalized"

I also think it's great that some of you are snatching up shortbed fleetsides in great condition that run and drive for 6-8K. Buy every one you can because that's not what they're selling for here.

His price isn't far off. If the truck had a good lowering job and A/C it would definitely sell for his asking price. You guys also have to consider his location, that truck was painted 10 years ago and rust and bondo aren't popping through, most trucks in his area are likely rusty bondo covered garbage. Given the location, I would still bring a magnet, but I actually like the fact the truck was done 10 years ago.

The only thing I would consider custom is the shaved marker lights.

Ha! I'm so used to seeing my 67 everyday I didn't even notice they were gone! No markers look "normal" to me
