TBI injection to Carb
Can a 95 Chevy 350 TBI injected engine be converted to a Carb setup by just replacing the intake and Carb ? Not using the computer, harness and sensors.

Re: TBI injection to Carb
I've done it several times in fact the motor in my 68 GMC is an old TBI motor that was changed to carb when they removed the factory big block.
Intake ,carb and Dist is what you will need. |

Re: TBI injection to Carb
The intake isn't a direct swap unless you use a tbi-specific aftermarket part. The 2 center bolt holes are at a different angle than the pre-tbi intakes. The older intakes can supposedly be ground out to fit, but I've never done it.
The PO used a Performer conversion manifold and 1406 carb when he put the tbi longblock in my truck... |

Re: TBI injection to Carb
Hmm very interesting. I had no problem with the carb intake fitting my tbi motor. I don't remember getting a tbi specific intake. you will have to deal with fuel delivery if you don't have an electric pump already in your truck. The tbi blocks aren't machined for a mechanical pump.

Re: TBI injection to Carb
Many were not, but some were. Mine was one of them. 87 truck 350 with 14102193 heads. From reading online, ( and junkyard observation! ) it looks like there were 3 configurations. 1. Open pad where fuel pump plate goes, and no pushrod hole. 2. Block off plate on pad and as-cast bore for pushrod. 3. Block off plate over fully finished pushrod bore. Option 2 can be drilled out to accept the pushrod, option 1 can't.
As far as the intake bolt angle difference, here's a pic: http://www.hotrod.com/articles/hrdp-...s-short-block/ While you're in there, why not consider the junkyard roller cam swap? Most tbi blocks can be upgraded with minimal work. On my to do list... |
