Strange find
Today, I took the lower molding off the front of my truck so I could start the repainting process.
What did I find? The wide Black stripe is actually woodgrain tape that was painted black. None of the rest of the molding is the same, ( I.E. It's painted. ) it appears to be factory installed , because I just took the bumper off , and they were the originals. Has anyone else seen this on their truck?. |

Re: Strange find
Maybe a 'factory fix' to a production error?

Re: Strange find
I would say it was replaced at some point. A lot can happen in 45+ years...

Re: Strange find
I don't know. I have found that my grill was replaced some time ago, and there's little things I notice on my truck that are different than trucks I see in salvage yards.
Part of the fun of having a vehicle that's 46 years old. |

Re: Strange find
I think someone painted a woodgrain piece to replace the original.

Re: Strange find
That's what I'm thinking too.
The original owner must have been in a fender bender way back when. A little history on my truck. I'm the fourth owner.i bought the truck in May 1992 The third owner was an army pilot, that had it for two years. The second owner bought the truck from the original owner in 82. He was meticulous when it came to records. I have all his receipts and the ledger he kept, whenever he had any maintenance or mechanical repairs done.. Because of the detail he went into I have to sumize that the first owner had an accident and replaced the grill shell and possible the hood. It had scuff dents on both driver side wheel wells, the front lower moulding was bent, but no other dents on the rest of the body. |
