Quick release sytem for rear seat, any options?
I feel like I remove the rear seat in my blazer 2 or 3 times a month for one reason or another. Anybody out there install a quick release system that allows you to remove and reinstall without using the OEM bolts?

Thinking about trying something like this with a heavy duty cotter pin for attachment.

Re: Quick release sytem for rear seat, any options?
I used the 3rd seat for an 80's model suburban. You'll have to cut out the floor mounts and weld them into your floor, but I think it's worth it. The back of the seat folds down, or you can just pop it out with no tools. Recently added shoulder belts to it for the kiddos. If I had to do it again, though, I'd move it forward a bit; I centered it on the wheel wells and it's a bit too far aft. Also have plans to raise it up some as it sits very low, much lower than stock.

I also used a Suburban 3rd seat, but I made brackets to go on top of the bed.

I wanted to do that, it was simpler and didn't modify the truck too bad, but I wanted to be able to lay stuff flat or camp out in back.
How about those stud-type hood latches?

Here's what I'm planning to use in my new build. They're aircraft seat tracks. They allow for adjustment forward and backward and complete removal. I think if I put them between the raised ribs they probably will be pretty flat. I'm going to use the 48 inch ones so I can also mount a box securely in the back. |

I've been looking for something like that! Where did you find them? With those, I actually plan to have the back seat facing aft most of the time. The kids would love that.

My local Metal Mart used to carry them but they don't anymore. I found them online, though. Google "aircraft seat tracks".

Great ideas. Those aircraft seat tracks look intetesting. I don't mind if it is completely flat. Mainly remove the seat for Home Depot trips and when I take the family to the drive in theater.

Re: Quick release sytem for rear seat, any options?
Replace the hold-down bolts with studs. Then use wing nuts to hold seat down. That way all you need to do is remove the wing nuts to pull the seat. This still takes a little time, but its quicker than backing the bolts all the way out with a socket wrench. I thought about using some sort of cotter pin instead of the wingnuts, but couldn't figure out how to provide the necessary clamping force with a cotter pin to properly secure the seat and prevent rattling.

Following the link provided by mcmixix, these aircraft track hold downs look interesting.

I think my favorite option is the wing nut idea. Do you think you could just use a 7/16 fully threaded rod so you does have to modify the mounting holes?

Threaded Rod has a low tensile strength. I would be leary using it for seats as a safety issue.

How about an extra long bolt threaded up from the bottom?

Re: Quick release sytem for rear seat, any options?
Those aircraft seat tracks look quite promising.
Another alternative is ball lock pins & bushings. Just weld the bushings into and flush with the floor - no studs sticking up, getting caught on everything; https://www.google.com/search?rlz=1T....0.mF-pIowtlJM |
