Strange noise

hello all I have a 67 c10 with a 250 and a 3 speed on the column. when driving the truck there is a strange grinding noise that happens in every gear when I go above 2500 rpm as well as in neutral but goes away when I back off the gas. the clutch is on its way out and I'm planning on replacing it and wondering if it will have anything to do with the problem. the noise used to happen around 3000rpm but it is now more prevalent. any ideas, please let me know
