Repo Front fenders, 65 c10

Any opinion of repro front fenders for my 65 C10. Looked into patch and new fender brace but looks like a new fender might be easier option. Opinion on fit? and does price make a difference or are all vendors selling the same part at different prices?

Re: Repo Front fenders, 65 c10

Repo just the front fenders? now thats harsh. Usually they take the whole truck. LOL

Sorry couldnt resist.

New fenders are made from lighter gauge steel than OE. So some would rather fix OE rather than replace. If that is not a concern for you then there are some fenders that are better fits than others. Others will pipe in with an idea of which brand is better. But none fit perfectly, be prepared to open up bolt holes and tweek the fender to make it fit correctly. Usually not too bad but dont expect them to line up perfectly out of the box. Also frequently the will arrive with slight dings or rolled over edges due to shipping and will need a slight bit of body work to make them perfect. Again typically not much but they will require some work.

Also, you will notice the seam where the front meets the side is WAY gapped.

Re: Repo Front fenders, 65 c10

I just had the lower rear bottoms of my original fenders repaired. If you care about fit you should always repair your originals. My fenders are original to my truck from new, and the fit was, and still is very nice. I actually sold a pair of NOS fenders because I was concerned about the fit. I bought my patch panels from CCP. The metal thickness was close to the GM metal. If you have someone in your area that is good with a welder, that's the way I would go.

Re: Repo Front fenders, 65 c10

Just finished installing one on my truck. After reading everything on this board I was expecting to get a piece of junk repop fender. I was pleasantly wrong. Ordered mine from Classic Parts and It arrived very well packaged. Not so much as a scratch on it. Out of the box it did not fit well but after a days work fitting and refitting it looks great. All of the mounting holes needed to be enlarged and some minor trimming and grinding in the area of the two large mounting holes at the top of the fender near the door hinge. The only info on my fender was a sticker that said " Taiwan " , no other markings. As mentioned already the gap at the headlight area was a little large but in my opinion ok for a driver.

Maybe I just got lucky but I'm very happy with mine

Re: Repo Front fenders, 65 c10

I would imagine any good body shop could make the repo (sic) fenders fit fine. Although they might be a lighter gauge metal then original it's well worth the headache. I bought a complete new bed from NSANE Hot Rodz and it went together fine, sure there's always some work involved... but that's hot rodding. NSANE Hot Rodz also provide assistance if needed by phone. They're on this forum. Good luck

Found this pic, hard to see but you can see the gap. You can see through the fender if you look, these came from Fix my rust.com

Re: Repo Front fenders, 65 c10

Just wanted to clear up an error in my previous post to this thread. The company I purchased my fender repair panels from was CPI from Alabama. I will say the metal thickness was real decent.

Just a side note, fixmyrust.com is really just topbananaparts.com with waaaay better shipping rates.

When I called top banana to get it shipped freight and lower the shipping charges, the company directed me to their sister site, fixmyrust.com .

I was told that they are the EXACT same parts.

I just ordered this and have yet to see it..but the shipping went from $208 down to $33 .

Their parts are from the company Tri-Plus/Key Parts.

I'll report back with a side by side comparison next week.

to be fair to ALL the aftermarket companies, they don't make these, just the only stuff out there to sell.

Re: Repo Front fenders, 65 c10

Jim, it's pretty easy to get to that $1,000 mark isn't it!!

AngryPirate, I looked at FixMyRust, and the shipping is unbelievably cheap, but the webpage doesn't have rear fenders. It shows them, but the #39 item is lost between the webpages, you can't actually order them. but please give us feedback when you get your fronts in.

I need to order all 4 fenders and very much appreciate ya'lls feedback. Right now it looks like LMC with free shipping over 1,000 may be my best way to go.

If there is a gap in the one I get from fixmyrust, I'm going to see if I can clamp the gap and tack weld it closed from the back.

But yes, if all else fails...seam sealer!

Re: Repo Front fenders, 65 c10

ALL repro sheetmetal comes from one place, one factory, in China(Taiwan). Quality is hit and miss, sometimes it's good, sometimes not so good. All suppliers get the same parts, so shop around for the best price and service.

Re: Repo Front fenders, 65 c10

This is similar to others, the gap between the fender and the headlight area is apparent. I haven't done any fitment yet, but it looks fairly close to original.

Re: Repo Front fenders, 65 c10

Both of fenders are repos on my truck. I had the same problem with gaps on the front. When I had it painted for the second time the painter used seam sealer in all the gaps to give it a more finished look.

Re: Repo Front fenders, 65 c10

So, I painted my fender, to put a base coat on and to get some practice painting.

I REALLY should've test file it first. Everything looked damn close, and it was, except for one area. The area that bolts up to the air vent / cowl area. The angle on the bend in the area pointed to in the first picture needed to be a bit more acute. Because it of this, the top fender bolt holes BARELY reached and that was after some manipulation.

I also seam sealed the gap like t62 Barnfind had done.
