Re: What is a running 261 worth?
Go to a website called "Inliners" & ask there. They are the straight line engine folks & will know a lot about your engine.

Re: What is a running 261 worth?
I've seen the video and I'd say $300-$400.

As always a basic membership on the forum comes with no charge. You may post a reply in any of the Classified Forums. You will not have the ability to offer items "For Sale", "For Trade", or make a "Wanted to Buy" or "What's it Worth" post.

Re: What is a running 261 worth?
When I was a kid my dad bought an almost new 55 Chev wagon with 3 on the tree that had that engine. Lots of torque and that thing with green roof and cream colored bottom would really fly up the hills. Somebody told me they only put that engine in Pontiacs but not true. But for longevity a 2 speed powerglide and 265 might have been a better combination.
There are probably not very many 261's around anymore. |

Re: What is a running 261 worth?
Before I went to Afghanistan in '06 I traded a Mercedes wagon for a '57 Chevy school bus that has a 261 in it, never brought it home, it's still at my buds house. The military guys buy those engines up to use in the Chevy WW2 cargo trucks.
