Fan Shroud and Radiator Question

Apologies for the dumb questions but I need to buy a new radiator shroud and radiator retainer pads. I apparently bought the wrong NOS shroud as seen in the pictures. The bigger dirty one shown is the original (tabs are busted) and the clean one is the newb, which obviously is the wrong size. Is the new one for a non-AC truck (mine does have AC)? Also, there are 2 different sizes of retainer pads, one for 2/3 row radiators and one for 4 rowers. Can anyone tell me from the picture of the radiator what I have?

Re: Fan Shroud and Radiator Question

Tristan - we need more data to help you sort this one out. Is your truck BB or SBC? 4WD? I think you mentioned it was an A/C truck.

The shrouds are very different as to the answers to the above.

I just went through this with my truck. What you have in the picture for your new one is what looks like to me as a 2WD SBC shroud. My truck is a SBC, factory A/C, 2 WD auto and it has a 4 row radiator. I just replaced my shroud with a NOS and the part number is 3901443.

Give us more data and we can help you out...

Re: Fan Shroud and Radiator Question

Thanks, I should have been more specific. I have a 1971 GMC Jimmy 4WD with a 350 SBC and AC.

Re: Fan Shroud and Radiator Question

Agree with Randy's post above.... I think the new one is for a 2WD truck. I don't think it has anything to do with A/C. 4x4s use a deep shroud like your old one. I believe the engine mounts further back in 4WD trucks than in 4x2s.

And your radiator is a 4 row.

This is absolutely correct.

^ Yeah, it looks like a 4-row. Mine measures 2 3/4" thick. Also, you can take off the cap and look inside at the end of the core just to make sure.
