235 oil question
My 235 in my 62 isn't oiling the rocker right. I am only getting oil to the rear half of the rockers. Oil pressure is 40psi at the gauge. I already cleaned out the rocker rail and blew out the line. I an getting air pressure all the way around to the oil filter when I blow air in the hole on the head under the oil tube. Is there someone that has had this problem? It was working ok until I went on the test drive. When coming back it died and when I stopped I was having valve train noise. Any advice would be great!

Re: 235 oil question
My 54 block is a tad different from yours but didn't some of those later blocks have a special bolt in the head with a hole drilled through it? Mine has a tube under the side cover to the top of the block but I think it changed for the later blocks and was integrated.

Re: 235 oil question
If you are getting oil to the front half you know that the bolt in the block head is the right one. if the rocker assembly is old and worn out the oil will tend to favor the rear 6 rockers due to the larger clearances and not keep enough pressure in the assembly to send the oil forward. The slight lean back of the engine also exaggerates this. When at idle i get just a bit of oil from the front 6 but as soon as i rev it they get a good dose of it.
Have you had the assembly apart? If not its also possibly time to clean out the inside of the rocker shafts as the can fill with crud and get blocked. When removing and reinstalling reinstalling make sure that if your rocker shaft has a flat spot that it gets reinstalled facing the same direction. If your setup has mechanical lifters they will always give you a slight chatter.

Re: 235 oil question
It goes to the rear. I was running great before the treat drive. That's what puzzles me. I bet the head bolt is the wrong one. But does the 62 head bolt have the hole in it?

Re: 235 oil question
One of the bolts is skinny in the middle for the oil to get past but the oil all comes up to the rocker shaft through one line or hole.,

Nabbed off http://pugetsoundvintagechevrolet.or...h%20photos.pdf
Except for the method of attaching the valve cover, all 1953 – 1962 235 heads are interchangeable. However the rocker arms must be matched to the BLOCK In 1953 – 1958 engines, the flow of oil to the rocker arms is controlled in the block. In 1959 – 1962 engines, the flow is controlled right at the rockers. These rockers are different from the ones used on 1953 – 1958 engines. You didn't by chance mix and match parts? According to this the drilled head bolt is only used when you put and early 235 head assembly on a late 235 block http://www.1954advance-design.com/We...brication.html

Re: 235 oil question
I'm also thinking that they don't oil right if you get the shaft in upside down to the way the dribble holes are supposed to go.

Re: 235 oil question
I found the problem yesterday. The front rocker shaft was turned the right way (holes down). I didn't remove the rear shaft at first because the oil was coming-out good. So i removed both rocker assemblies and the center oil connector. Found the rear was upside down (holes up), so it would hold pressure to fill the front. I'm glad its a simple fix. Thanks for your advice on the 235. Not too many people know about them. They think they are like a 230, 250 and 292.
