Cameo's and rear gas tank ?

Anyone out there with a Cameo that installed a Fuel Tank in the back of the frame and still able to use the stock spare tire receiver?

Looking for ideas!
I want to relocate the tank outside of the Cab but it looks like i will have to Delete the original spare tire carrier!

Just wondering what others may have done or ideas?

the spare tire carrier is a unique and valueable addition to the cameo
i'd try to use a panel/suburban shaped tank, they mounted next to the drive shaft on pass side
my 38 panel had dual tanks, the extra tank was just a rectangular shape on angle iron supports bolted to the frame rail
with a tank on the drivers side you could use tube origami to use the stock filler neck

though the reason for the 2nd tank on my panel is the stock tank was small, maybe 12 gallon
and it was longer than a 31 panel tank

I would like to keep the nostalgia of the stock spare tire carrier but have seen
some Cameos with and with out in pictures but not one up close to see what they
really have?

Buddy of mine said to maybe look into a "Boat" tank that i could possibly use as a saddle tank next to the frame?

You might be on to something with using the stock fuel location and run it into a frame mounted tank!

What i thought would be really cool is to locate the gas filler behind the Cameo Tail light but not sure of how i would engineer it?
"OR" make the stock spare tire fiberglass carrier into a fuel tank?

behind the axle is not a very safe location for the gas tank. rear enders are the most common type of collision, mounting the tank back there exposes it to being damaged.

If the gas smell in the cab is what's driving the relocation, that can be cured by making a rubber gasket for the pickup instead of the cork version that's in there.

That space behind the seat is likely the safest spot for the tank. If anything hits hard enough to penetrate the cab and the tank you're probably to be past caring anyway.

I found a sheet of rubber gasket material at an ACE hardware, instantly cured the gas smell in my 57. That and making sure all the tiny little copper washer we under the screws. 2 of mine were missing, gas was seeping out around them when the tank was full. I found at the same hardware store. since then, I discovered they also have small nylon washers that would likely work as well or better.

Really never had a problem with the tank inside the cab, But, i stand at 6'4"
and even if i got a little more room behind the seat it would be a plus! that i guess,
was what i was really going for.

other than storage: i have truk's battery, 2 amps and a sub-woofer back there, you don't gain any legroom from a tank relocation
with or without the tank behind the seat your stock or aftermarket seat will still hit the back of the cab

i raised the seat i installed in truk 2'' above stock to gain some legroom as i am also 6'4''
this also makes it a little harder to use the rearview mirror or to see stop lights



makes it easy to locate a headrest though

Going to put swing pedals in place of the stock
and think that will give me a little more leg room,
again personaly I don't have a problem with the tank
in the cab but my thinking is if even I gained a 1/2",Well,
That's more room then I had.Lol.

I am 6-5 and unless you can drive with seat back completely straight up and down you wont gain any room. I have seats from an 03 silverado and its not perfect but not that bad either.
