Help with ls accessory drive fit

Guys that have made ls motors fit with stock inner fenders what did you use? I was counting on Holley accessory drive to fit but after mounting my inner fenders and measuring it is going to need some trimming of the inner fenders. Not a huge deal but I would rather not. Kwik has high mount brackets and they will clear the fenders will lots of room to spare. What other options are out there? Need to run ps pump and resiovor and sander 508 for my vintage air.

My personal opinion is that Kwik high mount is the best option $$$ wise if you can't make OEM work. You don't mention if anything came with your 5.3.

All I have for accessories right now is a corvette harmonic balancer and corvette water pump. No room for truck accessories.

Re: Help with ls accessory drive fit

the holley system is over $1000 and the kwik isn't that much less
unless your fabricationally challenged you can make all these brackets for less than 10% of that
universal fit usually doesn't locate accessories where you want them

if you look at the kwik system it is all flat plate and tube spacers, anyone can make flat plate and spacers
this is what kwik has on their site

this is my brackets made with flat plate and tube spacers
tools used: grinder, drill press, files and a welder

ac compressor mount low in a stealth location

power steering and alternator side

fabricating takes more thought and work than bolting on parts but ogre enjoys the challenge

I used the Holley bracket kit and had to recess the fender wells. You still have plenty of room under the fender.

Re: Help with ls accessory drive fit

We just had a discussion on this topic. KWIK ac top mount might work with out getting into the inner fender. http://www.kwikperf.com/lsx_high_mount.html

Though it looks like it is for truck spacing.

I think this is my best bet due to some changes I'm making to my build. Purchased a brand new LM7 from Summit. Arrived yesterday and already has harmonic balancer and water pump installed. Got me thinking....

If I move my fan to the front of the radiator it will open up a good 4". Enough to run truck accessories and this high mount mini sanden setup from kwik. This will solve my radiator plumbing issues. Any issues with the stock alternator/PS brackets? Looks like it will fit between the frame rails and inner fenders no problem.

As for the mini sanden unit. I called Vintage Air and they said it works just fine.

Re: Help with ls accessory drive fit

Talked to Wayne at Kwik. They make high mount with corvette spacing So this is an option. holley is a nicer kit (OEM ish) IMO and includes a place to mount the p/s resoivour. Might be easier to go with Holley and just modify my inner fenders.

That was my reasoning for using the Holley kit. It looked like it belonged there and not an after thought of "oh lets hang it here". Modifying the wheel wells is a rather easy job.

Re: Help with ls accessory drive fit

I used truck accessories and a 2009 Trailblazer water pump. The Corvette intake manifold clears the accessory drive with a $15 ebay idler relocater

Like Ogre, I fabed the mounts for the Sanden compressor - I did have to shave two of the mounting ears off the compressor to get it to clear the frame rail. I suppose I could have used the smaller displacement Sanden and avoided this, but I do live in Phoenix. The compressor will drop-out underneath the truck if it ever requires replacement.

$1000 for an accessory drive seems outrageous to me. With the Trailblazer water pump, I have about $100 in mine

Re: Help with ls accessory drive fit

Thanks ogre, dwcsr, e015475. I wonder if the trailblazer water pump pulley will fit without hitting the fan? The Camaro water pump touched that's why I bought the corvette one. I sure wish I bought the radiator with a front mount fan!

Re: Help with ls accessory drive fit

I'll measure the nose of the trailblazer pump tonight and let you know the dimension. 'It would seem pretty easy to either stagger two smaller 'sucking' fans on the engine side of the radiator or move the large one to the other side to push. I have two 12" sucking fans on another car with an LS1 and they work well.

Your engine looks pretty far forward in the bay compared to mine. I moved the firewall back on the cab so the engine's pan would clear the rear-mount steering rack - my engine is probably 3-4" back from yours. Moving it back gave me better clearance to the headers, allowed the ac compressor to be mounted down low to clean up the engine bay, and let me use the truck accessories. Here's a picture - my valve covers will be about half way into the recess in the cab firewall.

From the face of the block to the nose of the pulley, the Trailblazer pump measures 7 5/8"

Never heard of them. Looked at it and made a phone call. They don't have dimensions on their website but from pictures it looks similar to the holley setup.

Re: Help with ls accessory drive fit

Flysocal, I believe the truck alternator and ps will clear an AD truck inner. The reservoir might contact the inner fender. Good to hear the mini compressor will work. KWIK is probably a good fit solution, though like dwcsr mentions above, the brackets look like an afterthought. I used them on my 56 and they are challenged in the looks department.

Will the fan in front of the radiator present any cooling problems?

This isn't exactly a slam dunk. I don't see the airflow being a problem if I cut holes in the fan shroud. I'm gonna install the new engine with the fan removed and stare at it for a while....

Re: Help with ls accessory drive fit

Somewhere in our discussions someone mentioned ICT Billet for the AC mount.
Curt-TN just started a build thread and is using that mount. It looks similar to KWIK

Here is his build thread http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=724260

Curt put together a video of the installation too.

Re: Help with ls accessory drive fit

I used the stock truck accessories, low mount denso will compressor, and notched the frame backfilling it with 1/8 inch steel. I even have a puller fan. It is all about engine placement. I put the passenger head about 1 inch in front of the firewall.

Re: Help with ls accessory drive fit

I don't know what the big deal is? I mean really, I'm running 2 AC compressors, PS pump, alternator and a total of 9 pulleys. Space issues, hahaha, I have no stinking space issues. OK, smart-ass teasing is over. Engine shown is my set up engine

Re: Help with ls accessory drive fit

OK, so something that may be of some actual help: the water outlet is removable, it is also stainless and can be tig welded. I did this to mine for clearance issues on an earlier set up on the COE.

Re: Help with ls accessory drive fit

Hey Rob, I got a giggle out of your post there on 22. I hadn't really noticed...the COE has more width inside the inner fenders apparently?

That is a good point about the water neck being removable and Tigable That could really help with some applications.

I liked Ogres suggestion about making accessory mounts too. As you did for the compressors.

Re: Help with ls accessory drive fit

I've been thinking about this.... Running a front mounted fan is more of a band aid if there is no room. I can make room if I cut into my fenders like dwscr so I think that's what I will do. The Holley system is slightly discounted right now so I'm gonna pull the trigger.

Regarding the outlet, is it simply pressed in? Any technique involved in removal and replacement? As you can see I could use a 90 elbow
