Anyone have the factory holes exposed for a LH sport mirror
1971-72 Chevy - or so.
I just replaced the LH mirror on my 72 driver (needs gaskets and a RH mirror yet - "good enough"). Anyway, the topic of mirror placement has come up before. Just seeking confirmation for the money pit. Below are pics and measurements I took from the 72. If someone can confirm or correct these measurements for proper installation it's appreciated. I couldn't tell you if these mirrors came factory, because there are other holes in the door, and no mention of mirrors on the SPID. Edit: The LH mirror isn't factory, for whatever it's worth (pardon the pun). Mirror was broken. $23 for a nice OEM. If not a factory sport mirror truck, perhaps the mirror was installed too high, based on a post or two I've seen. Not that the illustration has much value, but my mirrors are mounted approx. the same height as the image in the assembly manual. On a side note, I should have drawn a line along the center of the body edge for a more accurate measure (sun, bad eyes, better pics). I'll hit it again pending a RH mirror and gaskets.

Course I'm not suggesting "factory" was always "factory". One could only hope. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=179279

Re: Anyone have the factory holes exposed for a LH sport mirror
No kidding, 2.3/16" further back than your left. The center screw on my perhaps not factory hole placement for the RH mirror is 8". BTW, thanks for checking.

Re: Anyone have the factory holes exposed for a LH sport mirror
Anyone else have the factory holes available for measure? So far the conclusion is:
1. The center of the first hole forward is approx. 1" below the body line edge. 2. The center of top hole rear is approx. 5/8" below the body line edge. 3. The measure from the front edge of the door to the first hole forward seems to vary, even if that means it varied from factory. For whatever it's worth, here's a link to the factory assembly manual: http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/a...1&d=1131415408

Re: Anyone have the factory holes exposed for a LH sport mirror
I can get measurements from my blazer later in the week (it's at the body shop). If it helps, here a link to the RH door http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...9&postcount=79 note in the pic it looks as if the top two holes align: equidistant from the floor, which differs from the manual and those on my green blazer and gmc but may spurious and related to camera angle.

Re: Anyone have the factory holes exposed for a LH sport mirror
Pics show the base mirror factory holes covered by the original owner when camper mirrors were added. LH first:

Re: Anyone have the factory holes exposed for a LH sport mirror
RH - note it's set back toward the rear more so than the LH mirror.

Re: Anyone have the factory holes exposed for a LH sport mirror
I was wrong on measurement on left mirror. It is seven inches back from door edge.Sorry about that. It's so cold here in South Dakota I think my tape measure shriveled.

You measured 5/8" to the top rear hole. I measured 1/2", but by the looks of the picture I posted, I may have been short an 1/8th or so. BlackHornet measured 3/4". By the book 3/4" is right, or technically, the top rear hole should be .24" higher than the front hole. Safe to say that: 1. The front hole vertically is 1" below the body line. 2. The rear hole vertically should be 3/4" (technically .76") below the body line. Seems to make sense to mark and eye it. 7. The front hole horizontally is 7" from the door edge, for the LH mirror. 4. By the book the RH mirror sits 1.3" further back than the LH mirror. Nothing more to it. Really the front hole was key, the rest is by the book. Yeah I'm a little slow, but eventually get there............hopefully. Thanks to you guys, this thread and others have value. For me anyway, and I appreciate it. With my spare mirrors, I'm ready to drill. It will look awesome with the other six holes until body work (former mirrors).
