1966.. Brakes, suspension, lowering..need suggestions
I am getting ready to do a few modifications to the 66! The truck sits somewhat low but that is due to someone heating the springs at some point, ironically it rides amazing...It does need shocks!
I ordered the Coy's C33 wheels 20x8.5 & 20x10 today, I would like to upgrade to disk up front so I was considering a drop spindle as I think the truck sits a tad high in the front, being that it does need shocks, and the springs are heated I considered one of the "Grand Slam" kits, or just a drop spindle kit with a new MC and booster and buying shocks separate, .....can anyone chime in I like to be pointed in the right direction... Thanks

Drop spindles dont change the springs or shocks as far as ride, but you may put the front tires into the inner fender (on top) from what I see from your picture.
If you reach up there and measure between the top of the front tire and the bottom of the inner fender you may find you only have 2 to three inches left now.

Does that kit include a rear frame notch? Five inches puts that axle tube pretty close to the frame rails.

That kit does not come with the cnotch. I installed a 5 drop spring in the rear. It really not that close too the axle yet. I will post a picture here soon.

So I am still looking around and getting ideas, I have read where lots of guys just swap the K member, I just stumbled upon a suburban 6 lug K member out of a 88-93 ......Would that work? What would I have to change?

Re: 1966.. Brakes, suspension, lowering..need suggestions
You don't need to swap crossmember. The guys with torsion bars normally would. I regret ditching bars but I also went wayyyyy overboard with Porterbuilt. Get drop spindles from McGahee, bell tech or the like with new brakes and hardware. You spent how much on wheels and tires? But can't get the proper stuff to stop?
Everyone wants to shortcut the safty stuff. Stay away from CPP all in one MC you will not get the air out. Factory design flaw. I don't like the power brakes so I disconnected vacuum line. CPP brakes ok, I would suggest other.

Re: 1966.. Brakes, suspension, lowering..need suggestions
It will cost as much to replace stock parts with new. I spent at least 3 years gathering all the parts just for the front. Only to replace new parts due crappie new parts or parts that should have been proper. If you spent the money on the shoes seams like a new pair of britches to tie it together would be logical. Find a local place to get parts if not wanting shipping or Jegs, Summit carry same stuff Speedway Motors also. If ordered out of state no tax. Why I use Jegs more often than Summit but Speedway has a better price and hot rod toys that works on our trucks.
