Really tight driver side caliper
Hey all,
I finished installing the CPP disc brake conversion and the driver side caliper is really snug and does not allow the rotor to spin easily. The passenger side is fine, it spins with a slight amount of drag as to be expected. The driver side requires quite a bit of muscle to rotate it. I have removed the caliper and used a "C" clamp to seat the piston into the bore. I thought it might have some tension that had pushed it out of the bore, but it is as far back as it can go. I know I don't want to drive it for a long period of time because it will probably heat the rotor up substantially. Has anyone else run across this with their conversion? |

Re: Really tight driver side caliper
Does the rotor turn fine when the caliper is off? If it does you should be fine. When you cycle the brakes some on the first drive the calipers will find there spot and align to where they need to be.

Re: Really tight driver side caliper
Was the caliper a tight fit / hard to get on the spindle ? If so, it probably isn't sliding properly on the pins, because of the made in China quality. If you take a large flat file, to the flat sections of the spindle, that capture the caliper. You can clean it up some, so the caliper doesn't bind up. One of mine was the same way, the mating surface was poorly machined ( wavey ) which filing it will show off.

I had a similar issue. It broke itself in. Brakes do not pull and last time I rotated the tires it was spinning just fine.

Re: Really tight driver side caliper
I don't see why not. At the time, for me the spindle was the preferred choice.
