Cost of a DD quality 4x4?

What have you all seen for prices for running, driving 4x4s? I just sold a truck anday sell another to get a K10/K20. Looking for nothing fancy I want a 4 speed and long wheelbase. I'm out here on the east coast and might be tempted to pay one to be hauled from AZ or NM and so on. Don't need 100% rust free original as it would sit outside.

What examples have you seen for prices?

I got my 72 k20 from Colorado last January , has typical rust where floor meets rocker and wheel well by battery. I paid $1500 . Cost me $900 to get it to ohio. Needed tinkering on the engine to get running . Im very happy with how much i paid.

Even with the shipping you got a great deal.

You can't touch a running 67-72 around here for less than $3,000 to $4,000. A decent 4WD is going to cost upwards of $5k.

You don't see deals like that too often. Better count on about 4x that much, or more.

Re: Cost of a DD quality 4x4?

Something that's daily driver reliable and "quality" is going to be quite a bit more dough than the trucks shown so far.

I definitely don't consider my K20 in your category, but as it sits with all the extra bits, and money I have put in it since I got it, I wouldn't take less than 6500 if I were to ever put it up for sale. Im thinking at least 10 grand for a nice DD you are asking for.

Re: Cost of a DD quality 4x4?

There are two 71-72 k10's in my area that I tried to buy before my blazer. The guy told me 12K. They look to be decent runners but I never inspected them. I suspect he really didn't want to sell them either.

Re: Cost of a DD quality 4x4?

I'm seeing that the 60-66s are more uncommon in 4x4 but aren't as expensive? Seem weird at all? Same running gear as the 67-69s too.

Re: Cost of a DD quality 4x4?

Good useable daily driver, relatively solid and relatively easily restoreable truck....
You should be able to find one (out west) for between $5k and $10k without too many problems.
Anything less than that....roll up your sleeves, anything more than that....inspect it heavily.
My two bits.

Yes - on a bill of sale no less. I think shipping one from the West is worth it just for the fact you can get one at a fair price.

I agree , and resale where you live is outrageous . My niece lives in Kenasaw , I have priced several trucks there , and was astounded at what was being asked for them

This^^^^ But for 5k to 7k you need to be Quick able to move fast. Clean ones are not around long!

Re: Cost of a DD quality 4x4?

We used to say anything that runs is worth $1000, and 4WD is worth another $1000. This was many years ago, so I would double those numbers and say that $4000 is about rock bottom if everything works. Rsmarr1982 got a crazy good deal on his, as did 52napco.

Re: Cost of a DD quality 4x4?

This will make for a good link to post with my craigslist ad someday if I decide to let go of mine. I paid a little less for mine, probably because I am in California, but can tell you that all the small odds and ends add up quick to get it where you are comfortable with it as a DD.

Another option is buy yourself a solid 2wd and a 4wd frame and swap the body onto the 4wd frame. Could be cheaper, just a thought.

Theres no way its cheaper rolling frames are generally 1500 or so plus a donor truck
Plus your time plus its never going to bring the $$ a legit 4wd brings.

Your obviously from the rusty part of the country.

In the western US, it wouldn't be hard to find a cheap body and a cheap running gear to make a good 4X4 - granted good 4X4's can be had for cheap as well.

5-700 is the normal price for 4x4 frames with axles and sometimes transfer case / trans around here. They don't show up all that often around here but they are around.

Re: Cost of a DD quality 4x4?

I pick mine up for 3200. It's a 72 k10. Body could be better, but the truck had everything done to make it reliable. Since october 3000 miles with just a heater core hose and a starter which was because someone used a metric version.
It seemed that during my search you found trucks with good bodies but haven't ran in a while or good running trucks with rust. Find one with little rust and running the price goes up at least in MN it dose. You also might just have to look for awhile. I would say for a daily driver try to get disk brakes. Good luck searching.
