Does Year really matter??
I guess I could have posted this in the genereal section but I think it better suits our year trucks.
Here is the thing. I currently have my 69 GMC LWB and am trying to get started on rebuilding it. Getting a replacement cab would be the faster cheaper way to go. The only thing that bothers me is that I may not get a 69 cab so then the truck would no longer be a 69. But for some reason I WANT to keep it a 69 ( cab anyway). Am I the only one with a year problem ( not wanting to change the year) it may be cause this is the first "real" vehicle I buy and has so much potential and are so damn sweet looking. I also cam up with the idea and mentioned to my fiance that if we had to start changing stuff that I would still want a 69 cab but get parts from every year to use, so the truck would be a true 67-72 truck. ( might be a stupid idea but it was one of those things that just pop into your head). Am I crazy or just nuts??

How hard is it to get a hold of the rivets so I can just "replace" the tag on a new cab??
Couldn't I just remove it from behind and epoxy it in place??

I just picked up a solid 1987 chevy 3/4 ton, which I am gonna install all my 77 silverado front clip, trim and interior, is there anything wrong with that, its gonna be a 197787 chev truck

If you WANT your truck to be all '69, it matters (and don't let anyone convince you that you're wrong for wanting it).
But if you don't care, it don't matter

all marriages don't end up in the toilet. GMC69 if your stuck on the 69 thing then do it, but good cabs and parts are getting hard to get, so you might have to compromise alittle bit at times. good luck with your project

Well a couple things here. She likes the older vehicles as much as I do, she wants me to start working on the 70 dodge fargo power wagon we also own, actually she wants to do the work. So on that point I am not really concerned.
NOW as for the truck, well the frame is still a 69 frame, I can always remove the tag and get the proper rivets for it and then it will still look like the original cab ( unless I can find a 69 cab) then for box I don't really car what year, but a 67 would be nice since the lights are already smoothed out on the sides. I think that my front clip is still good, the doors, well they aren't too bad. The driver door has a rust hole by the base of the window but at the front of the door where it meets the door frame ( pointing towards the engine). I like the way the arm rest looks in the 69 so as long as the door panels are 69 then Iam all good. So I think I can get myself out of this whole. As soon as I can get some extra $$$ to get it done.

i have the same problem but seeing as my truck is a 67 alls im worried about is losing my little back window.

if you get a 67 cab that doesnt mean u have to use 67 front sheetmetal. u said u would get a 67 cab with the smooth front fenders. the fenders dont have much to do with the cab except for the fact that they attach to each other.everything on ur truck could be 69 except for the cab and id consider it a 69

Sorry a bit tired tonight spent 2 hours working our ( first time in well I don't think I ever spent 2 hours working out) and will do the same till sunday ( then drive out of town again),

Unless itrs that far gone, fix what ya got!! I may be a little more expensive, In the long run you did the right thing. A complete cab floor can be welded to your cab and all original numbers are intact. Most times the diffrence between replacing the entire floor and replacing the whole cab is as little as 100.00to 300.00.
Lets say that you have 10k into the truck in 5 years- And DMV won't grat you registration based on a descrepacy based on the VIN tag and the coded numbers. Is 200.00 worth it????????? warrens69gmc |
