Wheel advice

I hate to start another thread on this, but multiple searches have not solved my issue.

I'm looking for someone with a 67 with the 6 lug and drum all around that can tell me for sure what rims would fit.

Been looking at a bunch of options, but I'm hearing things like the need to add bushings to studs, and some rims not fitting because the bore size is wrong.

So does anyone have what I have (vehicle wise) and some nice aftermarket wheels that fit out of the box? I really like legend 6 and torque thrust wheels, but I'm open to others. I don't want to spend over 200 each.

Well, I think all Chevy 6x5.5 will fit. I put 6 lug 20" wheels from a 2003 Tahoe onto a 57 Chevy 3100. No issues. I don't think the bore size matters with Chevy 6x5.5 or 6x5.5 aftermarket. The legend 5 spoke wheels look nice.

Wow, I may try and bolt the 24x10 rims I have sitting onto my 70! I was going to sell them.

I would have thought 2003 Tahoe rims would never fit. Maybe it won't be as difficult as I have been fearing.

I'm thinking if they fit yours, they should fit mine. But I have seen a review on summit about the bore being off on a legend 6 wheel, and another gentleman here told me he had to put bushings on the studs..

The fitments issues with 6 lug are with the 1987 and older 4x4s. The late model wheels won't fit over the hub assembly on the straight axle trucks. I may have a pic of the OEM 20s on the '57.

I went through the same thing. I always heard the late model 6 lug gm wheels would not fit. I never tried so they might. I finally settled for these. around $760 with caps. they fit right on with no spacers .

What rims are those? They look great!

Thanx all. So the fitment issues are only with the 4x4, and I should be able to fit any 6x 5.5 wheel?

That would be great.

@AJ - those are tempting (on the red stepper), do you have the specifics, and where purchased?

Thought I would update this.

I got some powercoated rallys with caps and beauty rings (not on) from craigslist for 200.00.

With the tires, mount, balance, tax, etc. came to just over 800.00.

Tires are 275 60 15.

You stated that you used 2003 Tahoe 6x5.5 wheels. I thought the later models didn't have enough backspacing???

I'm trying to get something bigger than 15"'s for my 70.

Those look great. Or those the “police” smoothie like hubcaps? I’ve been considering getting those for mine.

@jim: I have the 6 lug factory axels. The wheels that were on it were generic, they have like 12 possible lug locations drilled. Whoever put them on used spacers (which I had to grind off). So these fit like factory with no modifications.

@1968baby: thanx. I have no idea what they are. I never asked the seller. The hubcaps look just like 1968aj's several posts up without the chevron.

Does this vehicle have 4 or 4.5 backspacing?

I am wanting taller wheels for my stock height 70 stepside. I have been told all the later Chevy trucks have little or no backspacing.

I thnk most would bolt on but would look awful.

The 2x4 6 lug trucks through 1970 have the same pilot bore as the 4x4 trucks through 1991 on the Suburban and the Blazer.

But the later 6 lug trucks have the small wheel pilot that is the same as the early 5x5 trucks. So the 6 lug late model rims DO NOT FIT (at least correctly...) on the early trucks. I bought a set of 6 luggers off a '95 Z71 truck and still need to sell them...

It is so worth it to convert to disc brakes and 5 lugs just to be able to buy wheels you like. I converted my 69 short step and would do it again. I used the Legend 5 wheels but I used the slightly wider 71-72 axle to get as big a tire in as possible within the parameters of the backspacing available on what I was willing to spend.

235 55 17 on 17x8 4 1/2" bs front and 275 55 17 on 17x9 5" bs rear. And it needs the later axle to work right.
