fast engine question

My son has a 2003 flex fuel 4wd suburban with about 195K on the 5.3 motor . the motor is bad we have access to a 2000 Chevy Silverado that has a non flex fuel 5.3 are these interchangeable and what else do we need to loot from the pickup to make the suburban run right?

Re: fast engine question

You will obviously be using the 2003 complete intake assy on the 2000 motor. The 2000 motor i believe has an egr pipe coming off of the passenger exhaust manifold. Does the 2003 have it also???

When i replaced my 2001 5.3 block the new gm bare block 5.3 fit 99-2006 if i remember correctly.

Do you have a plug in at the front timing cover area on the 2003?? This would be for variable valve timing at the nose of the camshaft area and when gm went to this system they no longer needed egr. (the pipe on the rh manifold)

With the intake manifold removed from both engines it will be obvious what systems are present.

Yes, 99- 06, should fit the bill. The VVT was later, so if you use all the intake/ect off your 03, you should be ok, as mentioned. I have an 06 5.3 flex fuel engine (my spare)...but to note, it has the same crank/cam sensors as the 2000, that I run in my longhorn (cam sensor in the top rear of the block) Longhorn
