I have a 67 and I am keeping my tank behind the seat. I remember in my old 67 that when the tank was full when you turned left I would always get a little spillage down the side of the cap on the paint and then would smell like gas. If I go to a 71 72 non vented tank does this still happen? What do I have to do to make this work correctly in my 67? Any info out there? Thanks in advance. Rod.

Not sure about the '71 but all '72 tanks were vented and the gas caps were not vented.... I don't think that's going to help your situation anyway. The leak would be between the cap and the neck.

Exactly.

You can solve the issue with a new cap/gasket, or simply make another gasket out of some thin rubber, like a bicycle tire tube to supplement the existing cap/gasket. That's what I did a while back. Haven't had a problem since.

In other terms, the venting was through the vapor canister right Doc?

Seems with a canister you might be defeating the purpose by using a vented cap. That said, it probably doesn't hurt anything.

I read one post where they thought an earlier "vented" cap worked in one direction. I believe it was air in, not vapors out.
