2WD vs. 4WD Rally Wheels
Have a question.. Is the 2WD Rally Wheels the same as a 4WD Rally Wheels?? Are they 15X8, or are they a different size? I know the caps would be different, but would the size be different??
Please help! |

2 wheel drive 15x8 wheels are 5 lug and have 4 1/4 inch backspacing
4 wheel drive 15x8 wheels are 6 lug and have 4 inch backspacing.

Forgot to add, some 2 wheel drive rally wheels are 7 inches wide too. Typically found on vans. They work very well under the front end of a deeply lowered truck.

Right...what about the 2WD 6 lug rallies? The ones that I'm looking at are 6 lug. The fellow that is selling them said they were from a 2wd. Would they be 7" or 8"?

I don't know of any 2 wheel drive truck built with 6 lug wheels since 1970. 71 went to 5 lug and all 1/2 tons stayed 5 lug up till 1999.
Rally wheels on trucks began in 1973. No such animal as a 2 wheel drive 6 lug rally I've ever seen or heard of. Of course, everyone has seen the 4 wheel drive wheels installed on 1970 and earlier 2 wd trucks.

Mark70Z, those wheels most likely will fit your truck, if it has 6 lugs, here's a pic of a rally in my '70.

No such thing as a 6 lug / 2wd rally, although the 6 luggers WILL fit '70 and earlier 6 ug trucks ... GM didn't offer rally wheels on our trucks.
All 2wd rally's were 5 ug and all 4x4 rally's were 6lug. |

This discussion is really interesting. Here's another Q, when did they start making rally wheels for the 8 lug trucks?

Is there a way to make any other center cap fit on a 6 lug 4x4 rally on a two wheel drive?

Check Coker Tire catalog page 29, Pickup Rallye pre '71. Chrome wheels 15 x 7 were $74 @ for my '69 stepside. Check page 31 for bow tie caps.

Ok...then.. If no 2wd rallies... What is the bore size of the center hole??? It should be different for 2wd and 4wd. I know this is the way it is on my car. The car has a small bore size hole. Also, is the 3/4 ton and the 1/2 ton the same bore size hole??

There are 6 lug rally wheels. They came off of a 73 up 4x4. Period. There are 5 lug rally wheels. They came off 2wd trucks and vans 73 up. Period. If some dude told you he had a set of 6 lug 2 wd rallys, he's wrong. He has 4x4 wheels. They fit 6 lug 2wd trucks just fine. What does center hole bore have to do with it? And how does your car come into play here? See the pic below? 6 lug 4x4 rallys on my 2wd truck.

Like was mentioned you can cover the holes...Either cut a piece of sheet metal, then get a new sticks, or do the spot mirrors.. 4 mirrors at Walmart and some JB weld silcon sealant. less than $10. They gicve a nice effect too.
