1961 chevy crewcab cummins

Hello all,
I've owned this truck for 5 years now and i'm just now getting started.

this is when I first picked it up in 2012

stripped it down to get it sand blasted, and mounted it to a trailer

Great find. Before you blast you should look for the number on the tunnel in the engine compartment. interested in how close it is to mine.

Neat crew! I'm 99% sure I looked at that crew in Saratoga , Wy back in late 90's. The guy had that one and a bare 64-66 crew cab cab. Awesome rig!!!

jason spent the last couple evenings cutting and welding new metal into the drivers door jam. set the door to get good alignment between it and rocker.

Re: 1961 chevy crewcab cummins

I've been looking for a nice usable 62-66 chevy hood for quite some time now. couple weeks ago i was going to buy a new one, but they were out of them when i was there. I just got a text from my buddy jason that he found me a rust free hood that his boss (a fellow 60-66 chevy truck guy) donated to my project! Thank you boss!

Jason was also getting some stuff done. The rear drivers cab corner/ doorpillar was wrecked and full of lead, so he was working on that when i stopped by.

Re: 1961 chevy crewcab cummins

Hey there Winslow,

I opened up my gauge cluster and snapped a shot of the bit you asked about. I measured it as well, I figure it's about 7.5-8mm or 9/32nds, I cut out the two circles to cover the split gauges and to hold in the light around the indicator lights, then fixed them to the lexan. Let me know if you need any other info. Great progress on the crew cab its really coming along and looking good! Yeah I dig your regular cab with the Cummins, very cool truck and I love that burgundy colour.

thanks anthony.

just an idea on your seal to keep the dust out, maybe get some small vacuum line and split one side to snap it on the gauge cluster edge?

Nice thinking, yeah that probably would have been better. I had a whole mess of that foam tape stuff and went a little over board. Vacuum lines would definetly work, I didn't think of that, I was Thinking door seal rubber or something like that.

My original plan was suicide doors, but now I've decided to fix the original ones.

Re: 1961 chevy crewcab cummins

Hey Winslow!

Long time since you posted, but it looks like for good reason you have been busy! That 71 is looking nice! I like what you did with the gauges and dash. Awesome work! I know how much time that takes. Keeping the firewall probably saved you a ton of figuring. I like how you integrated the heater controls as well. Little more room on the 71 dash plus it looks like a little flatter canvas to work with. Good job! Looking forward to seeing progress on the 61! The duramax will be awesome! Cheers thanks for the update
