Long bed to short bed in one week
We got a customer's truck in from Arkansas on Weds. Customer is from Florida and bought the truck sight unseen. Nice truck with good options on the SPID fresh dark blue and white paint and new trim, but the owner wanted a short bed.
Ordered brand new Goodmark bed sides, chrome sport rear bumper, bumper brackets, license plate mount and license plate light assembly. Then headed to the hardware store for lots of nuts and bolts.

Step cut frame. Exhaust, fuel and brake lines shortened.

Re: Long bed to short bed in one week
Goodmark short bed sides were delivered Friday. Bed floor was welded up. Custom filler neck was attached to Blazer gas tank under the bed.

Re: Long bed to short bed in one week
Truck would have been done on Saturday but the rear bumper had some flaws in the chrome, so I had to order another one.

Re: Long bed to short bed in one week
I know you were just doing your job and you did a great job, I also know others will disagree but personally I liked it better as a long bed. As I said you did a great job on it but I like the long bed fleetside better. I do like the stepside short bed but wouldn't cut down a nice fleetside to make one though.
Don't get me wrong I would buy a nice cut down truck and be happy with it, I just wouldn't cut down an original longbed to make one. Again I'm not running down your work, it looks like an excellent job and I'm sure your customer will be very happy with it. Last edited by garyd1961; 02-14-2017 at 10:54 PM. |

I'm colored blind. Just me or has that truck been painted medium blue (510)?

Re: Long bed to short bed in one week
I think it's too dark to be medium blue. Pictures are in too much light of crappy fluorescent light.

I get the SWB preference. It's mine as well less a work truck. Personally, I don't know that I'd cut a long bed to get there. beautiful truck no matter.

Re: Long bed to short bed in one week
nice job. I fully understand some views that cutting down a long bed is not their choice, but i prefer a short bed and well i now have one. Again, i can fully respect those that love a nice long bed, i just prefer a short bed.

Re: Long bed to short bed in one week
Nice job, and I have a question. The SPID shows heavy rear spring. My 67 is going under the knife soon and did you leave that one on the truck? If so how does it behave on the road with a short bed, or does it not make a difference until it is weighed down? Just an observation and a stupid question on my part. Looks clean.

Re: Long bed to short bed in one week
LOL, do you think there is a Bizarro World (Seinfeld reference) out there where people are cutting up SWB trucks and making them into LWB trucks?

Re: Long bed to short bed in one week
It looks like someone did a nice job on the fuel door on the original bed. I would have replicated that.
But if you need to dump that flawed rear bumper, I'd take care of it for you. |

Where are you located in Colorado? I have someone I think I can send your way for another SWB conversion.
Thanks, Steve |

Re: Long bed to short bed in one week
Customer didn't want to pay the additional cost for the gas door remove and reinstall. I think the relocation worked out. Thanks!
