I'm looking for a stock truck to get a measurement ...

Top of the front wheel/rim lip measured on the outside of the lip. to the lower edge of the front fender..
so top of wheel and middle of fender..


This will give me a base line on factory ride height, to compare to mine to have a good guess on how much I need to lower it to get it where I'd like it..

I have stock 15" wheels, the original engine/transmission setup, but I have replaced my front springs with new, stock springs, so mine isn't a "survivor" -- I wonder if true survivors with 40-year old springs may have decompressed a little.

Let me know if you want me to measure mine.

Here you go. Mine comes in at 10 1/4" -- I guess the new replacement springs just aren't what the old ones were!

I have all stock stuff on 15" wheels, 235/75/15 tires, on original springs. Ill get ya a measurement tomorrow

72 original springs. So...could have some sag but measures just under 11" (10 15/16") when looking straight on.

but in the photo it looks closer to 10 3/8" at the tip of the lip..(tallest part of the metal not where the tire bead sits.) am I seeing things.. or?

The measurement was 10 15/16. The number you are seeing is because of the parallax error from the camera angle. I couldn't get the camera angle correct while holding the camera.

Sure is pretty. Of late I'm leaning on the same, which the 71 came stock. I figure to add top and bottom belts, like this beauty.

Because of different wheel/tire heights, the only measurement that really is consistent is from the center of the hub to the bottom of the fender.

On my all original 66,000 mile '69 short step the original numbers are on the left, the new numbers after 2 1/2" spindle and 2" ECE small block spring and a DJM rear flip on the leafs are to the right:

LF 19 1/4 14 1/2
RF 19 3/8 14 3/4
LR 20 3/8 14 1/8
RR 21 1/4 14 1/2

I haven't re-measured since I first did it, but it sits level to the eye. 27" tall front tire and 29" tall rear.

but a 15" rim is centered on the axle centerline.. so the top of lip to fender won't change enough from 1) 15" wheel to the next 15" wheel..
Even if one measured from a oem steel 15" er and the next guy did it with a 15" alum wheel..

now if I was asking from tire tread to fender lip.. then ya, the difference could be huge.

but the 1/32" tops difference between one 15" wheel and another isn't going to be enough of a difference here..
As body bushings age/wear and oem parts fit could be father off than that anyways.. meaning your measurement might be different than mine just from compressed height of body mounts..

This was to get a base line ball park.. to know how my I want to drop..

if the first guys measurement was 10 15/16th and mine is the same, I'll be able to tell where it should land with 2-3-4" drop springs..
same with if mine comes in at 9 15/16th sagging an inch over his.. I can guess that a 4" drop spring will truly drop it 3" as mine is 1" saging already.. ball park..
much better than ordering springs having them shipped across country and find it was to much or not enough..
As I have no idea if mine is lower than stock. or not.. this will allow me to know if it's stock now or not, and adjust my formula for the new parts accordingly

What size engine do you have? I am curious if there's a big difference depending on whether you have a straight 6 or a big block v8
