There must be someone out there, that can tell me the specs. on the anti-rattle strips between the rear hood braces and hood on a 47-53 AD. How thick is it? how long is it?, and so forth. Appreciate it.

I have posted 3 requests about the anti-rub material under the rear hood brace on the AD's. Are you telling me that no one with one of these trucks knows nothing about the material between the brace and the hood?. I would think that there was some restorers on this site that would have some input. Sorry for the rant.

I don't know anything about it but I can tell you for sure the way to get LOTS of positive responses is to post how impatient you are with members while you have a total of 12 posts.

Young man, I assume you're young, you need to remember, you can post a question and not get ANY advice or any response at all. This is all for free and entirely up to the readers to reply. You did get the attention of some of us, so you made your point, and you did get responses. I saw your original post but didn't have a definitive answer because there isn't actually one. The anti vibration stuff looks to be tarred cardboard folded and slipped in where the metal doesn't fit tight with the cross piece. I ran my 48 without it since 1981 when I had the hood dipped and then louvered. In over 200,000 miles I have not noticed it vibrating but that doesn't mean it doesn't vibrate at times.

I think this is what you are referring to. I looked in my 47-54 Factory Assembly Manual and I could not find anything. So, I went and opened my hood. I don't know why it uploaded them sideways, but, the first picture is that stuff I think you are talking about. The second picture is taken of the hood further back. I cannot say this is the original stuff, it was there when I bought the truck in 1969. It looks like some type fiber material that was soaked in an oil substance.

If this is what you are referring to, I will try to get a better picture and measure it.

Somebody help me turn the pictures back like they are supposed to be. Clay

3m used to make a two part expanding foam for just this. works great if you want results, if you want oe looks this is not for you

use neoprene foam in the thickness you need from Grainger if you want function. I have used it in the past and that is what LMC sells with their kits for the c10 trucks. 9 times out of 10 its not worth even messing with and looks ugly IMO. Also if you get too thick or use expanding foam it can deform the top of the hood. Another thing I have seen used that is somewhat more era correct is black roofing paper for smaller gaps or 3m strip caulk.

Just because you didn't get the answer you wanted, doesn't mean you have to be a d!ck about it. There are lots of great people, and tons of great information on this site...all for free.
And we are talking about vehicles that were built, mostly by hand, almost 70 years ago...when they used things like horse-hair, and cat-gut in the building process.
Some of these cabs are half an inch or more out of dimension from side to side.
It appears to me (after reading your multiple posts) that GM may have used this 'insulator' on some hoods and not others, where the hoods didn't meet the bracing well. There are a least a few vendors making damn never every part on these trucks. If you can't find it with them, I'd say, at this point, you're going to have to use some ingenuity.
Now I'm being the a$$hole, but it's offputting that you would insult a group of people that have been a tremendous amount of help to me, because you're fustrated you can't find what you need.

Have you checked into the manual on this forum? Pull up the search link and put your items in question there. I can't help, but thats a great place to start at. Or Google it possibly.
