Replacing upper and lower ball joints in my 72 Gmc K1500
Noticed a clunking sound on the front passenger side of my 72 K1500, found the ball joints are loose. Will I need a press or special tools to pull and replace them?
This one of the few things I've never had to deal with. Thanks!

Yup... you will need a ball joint press. Most auto parts stores will rent one out so you don't have to drop the $125 bucks to buy one.

Thanks, was hoping I could find away around using a press but it seems I'll have to buy one or make one, local parts store doesn't loan or rent tools.
Thanks again!

I just ordered a cheap Chinese version off Ebay for $40, maybe will work long enough to do the job

Just found a press on Amazon for about $50, I'll be replacing all four of the ball joints so I doubt I'll need it again, have a friend who is an aspiring mechanic so I'll sell to him for half price, and the right to use it if I ever need it again!

Re: Replacing upper and lower ball joints in my 72 Gmc K1500
When I did the lower ball joints on my 1972 C15 I rented a tool from my local auto parts house. It was a pretty stout rig and I had to pull on that thing with everything I had to get the old joint out and the new one in. Glad it wasn't a cheapy because it was flexing a tad... but I got them in.
