Bench Seat Cover Research - Prices - Sources - Vendors

There have been many a posts on this topic, a vinyl seat cover for a bench seat, but I wanted to add a current one with pictures and current prices from the Big Four. So I will update this thread with an item from each vendor, if you know of others please feel free to help out and contribute.

My rig is a 1974 standard cab 2WD with manual transmission

The Big Four Vendors are:

1. Brothers Trucks

2. Classic Industries

3. Classic Parts

4. LMC Truck

Brothers Trucks

73-80 FRONT BENCH SEAT COVER - MADRID VINYL

Item Number: UP80V01

Price: $229.99

Shipping: $33.45

Comments:

although I want a black one, their website does not change the pic even if you select the black one for purchase

not sure why this is so much more expensive than the other three sources, I always wonder if these online catalog shops order their parts from the same source and then charge what ever they can for the same items

Classic Industries

Comments:

Could not find one on their website so contacted their Customer Support, waiting to hear back.

These guys have excellent Customer Service, however they don't have much for our 73-87 trucks, they mostly have aftermarket universal junk, think floor mats, mud flaps, and do dads.

I have to say I'm pretty impressed with what they offer. I've been able to find any interior part I've looked for. I found a link for what you're looking http://www.classicindustries.com/pro...027300328.html The keywords to search for were "Bench Seat Upholstery". The other thing with Classic industries is they are the only classic parts company that seems to offer a percentage off. Id recommend getting their GM Truck catalog, you'll be impressed with how much they carry.

Thank you for the link though I am not sure this is the one I need as it states it's for a Suburban/Crew Cab and mine is a standard cab truck, and I know the other vendors actually differentiate between truck seats and Suburban seats, I may be wrong, also mine folds.

W1027300328 - 1973-80 Suburban/Crew Cab Non-Folding Bench Seat Upholstery - Beige Vinyl

"This quality bench seat upholstery for 1973-80 Suburban and Crew Cab models with non-folding bench seats."

I missed the part about your truck being a 74. Most of these are for the standard cab folding seat style 73-80

Classic industries has a bunch of covers. I did one seat already with one of their covers and I am getting ready to do 2 more seats, Black Vinyl Deluxe & Charcoal Vinyl Deluxe.

That is exactly the reason why I will probably never try their covers. That is poor marketing on their part.

I might be wrong, but I don’t believe it’s installed on anything, just propped up to show the cover by itself.

LMC Truck

BENCH SEAT KIT-VINYL-BLAC

Item Number: 38-2290-BL

Price: $189.95

Shipping: $27.75

Comments:

The more I buy from LMC Truck the less I like them. They do not have a Technical Support department, essentially they are just a call center, with no added value if you know how to use the Internet, and can place an order online by yourself, LOL. As far as this seat cover it sure looks a lot like the one from Brothers (gray one in the bottom pic) but it's $40 bucks less!

I think all of those covers come from here:

http://www.acmeautoheadlining.com/19chstcabpif3.html

They are sold on ebay by all kinds of sellers also.

Very crappy cataloging by all of them to really see what you are getting. The colors don't seem to match the original interior colors very well at least for the cloth and vinyl mixed covers (silverado).

I have recently talked to USA1 about covers. They will be the next place I'm going to try. They tell me that their covers are made there in NC

Re: Bench Seat Cover Research - Prices - Sources - Vendors

I had my bench seat and recovered by a local upholstery shop for $250. It turned out nice and the fabric and vinyl were close to the original equipment, if not an exact match.

I had him use denser foam and thicker foam so the seat would not sag under the weight of my fat butt. After about 25K miles of use it seems to be holding up well. I do ride a little high in the saddle but that is OK with me.

I also had him recover the headliner for $40. I have the thick foam style headliner so it was an easy job - it just force fits into place under the trim. - no glue required.

On the other hand, he did a bad job on the floor carpet, so I would choose one of the online vendors of carpets and do it myself if I had it to do over again.

I have Husky Liners and used some black exercise mat to cover the transmission hump and the exposed edges of the floor by the doors, so very little of the carpet shows. I have an SM465 so the transmission hump requires a bit more work to accommodate the floor shifter.

If you have not checked with local upholstery shops you should do so. They have access to a lot of OEM fabric sources that we don"t. They might even have some material on hand that would match what you need. At least they will have samples on hand so you can see exactly what you will get.

Do you need the hogring tool to do these covers or can they be done without upholstery tools? My original vinyl seat is about shot.
