Reverse Light/neutral safety switch

Ok. I need your help. I just perforrmed the jumper cable test on my 2 prong reverse light switch on my 70 c10 stepside with 350 v8 and th375. I appears that my switch is nkot working as the reverse lights turned on with the jumper. All other lights are working just fine. My question is whether the 2 prong reverse switch is correct or should i have the reverse switch/nuetral safety combo on my collumn. Trans is auto with a floor shifter.

Re: Reverse Light/neutral safety switch

If you have a floor shifter you need to install the neutral safety and back up light switch on the shifter, the shifter usually comes with instructions on how to mount the switches. The column is not shifting the vehicle so any switches there are now useless.

Re: Reverse Light/neutral safety switch

Thanks a bunch. That makes sense now that i think about it. I will need to look at my shifter yo see if i have a switch installed already. I bought the truck with the shifter installed so i dont know whats on there right now. Whats the best way to route the wiring to the shifter from the current location near the column

Re: Reverse Light/neutral safety switch

Unless, like some cars (69 Impala for example) where you can have the floor shifter AND the column (without a shifter) connected so that the column indicator still works. If you did it that way, the switches on the column would still work. Most don't set it up this way though.
