door panel rehab
Hi there,
Looking for help with door panel rehab. All four original panels for my '72 burb are in good shape except for the fact that that the PO sprayed some type of black paint on them, probably many years ago. Original color was white/Parchment. Much of the black is coming of with air, washing, and a little acetone. The rear panels are looking almost brand new. The front both have some yellowing areas. Not sure what this is. Cannot seem to get the yellow off and the more I wash/ scrub it seems that the color in the grooves of the texture is being removed. Does any one have experience cleaning these panels? I could paint them properly but would rather get the black paint off and keep original if possible. Thanks for any help! -Mike |

Re: door panel rehab
I would try a hard bristle brush and goof off from your local hardware or paint store

Re: door panel rehab
Thanks for the reply. Ended up power washing and scrubbing with degreaser and acetone. Came out looking very good. Rear panels look brand new but the fronts have some yellowing as pictured. Not sure if its sun damage or?? If I could get rid of the yellow they would be good as new.

When I do the door panels I WILL NOT do a color change, white-white, green-green etc.....The inserts are the aluminum aftermarkets.

Why didn't you like the adhesion promoter? I was going to use that if I need to coat these. Primer just work better for you? Thank you! |

Re: door panel rehab
I agree with DaHos! SEM products are the ONLY products designed for car interior parts. They have been around for a very long time and know exactly how to restore interior parts. Give them a call on their tech line as I know them to be very helpful.
Good luck!!
