What is on your list to start

A truck that has been sitting 3 to 5 years.

I have been kinda having the urge to drive a old truck over the last couple of weeks. I have one in the shop[ a customers frame off] that is getting real close to going back on the frame. I then have one of my 70 shorts in the shop to put on the cab dolly it is almost done and ready for high build primer. This has kinda given me the bug to ride. I have 5 or 6 of these trucks to build that I have been gathering over the last few years. I have couple that are close to being ride and drive in fact my 68 GMC drove to where it is parked right now. It was a big block truck but someone put in a later model 350 before I got it. It has power brakes steering buddy buckets tilt and vac tach dash plus air. This truck has been sitting for like the title says 3 to 5 years time gets away from me so quickly.
What do you do on one that you want to get driving running well and stopping to use and enjoy. I was just thinking while having lunch out of all the trucks I have bought 4 of them were run and drive and I have only logged less than 150 miles in all of them combined and that includes a 90 mile trip home in one of the 70's.[ I have a 68 GMC, 68 C10, 70 C-10 another 70 C-10 and 71 C30]
So I was thinking first off pull the tank and maybe the top of the carb to check it out then pull the plugs to spray some lube in. Then change the oil in the motor and trans.
So what else would you guys do? Sorry for the long post but if you know me well that is normal. Thanks Jim

I have the same problem. The customers cars keep getting done and my collection of things to build gets bigger

I have a '70 that I started in 2008 that i'm going to try and get running this summer. I still have a lot to do on it but I have all of the parts....

Fastest way to neglect a truck project ..... buy a boat!

It is just me and my 86 year old dad in our shop. But, it isn't like we aren't getting anything done we build somewhere around 20 to 35 wrecks a year. I have a frame off C-10 for a customer/member that is going back on its frame this week. I think I'll remove and seal the tank, pull the top of the carb or replace it with a Edelbrock 600. Pull the plugs and oil down the cylinders. change all fluids and maybe even reprime the oil pump. I'm hoping the brakes are still up[ I didn't want to get into a brake job since I was planning a frame swap with 5 lug stuff I already have it rolling]. I was also planning to return the truck to a big block once I did the frame change, but now I'm thinking of the 6.0 /4L80E I have at the shop.


This was always supposed to be "my "truck but I'm sure like all the others it will be for sale once it is done that is one of the holdups. Thanks guys. Jim

Ain't that the truth. And now after a 10 year affair with a boat I'm toying with selling it and using the cash for a freshen-up on the '71.

LOL! I just dumped almost a grand into our Salmon fishing boat... I would have much rather dumped that into my project rig.

I hope to reassemble the front end soon. I have to organize my help and set a date but if the help is what it's cracked up to be, I hope to get it back together. Then I'll fix (or get it fixed) the stuck parking brake, bleed the brakes, and go for an engine start.

My list seemed like it kept getting longer and longer. So many things to do and so little time.
So over the weekend I dropped everything and started tieing up some loose ends on my 71.
Front Axle finally bolted back in.
Doors on,
400ci. in...everything needs hooking up yet.
Front clip coming together...need to finish the fender wells yet.
Depending on the weather and the delivery man i should have all the brake stuff by the end of the week.

Now there is alot of little loose ends to tie up on it.but it sure would be nice too have this one run and move on its own again.
Since I've owned this one I drove it maybe 2 mi.
The ds front leaf was broke ,the dana 44 needed everything and the 307 had a bad cam in it so it wasn't very pleasant.

I started this last fall and left it sit all winter while doing other stuff.

Now the question is when do I get back too the 67.
