Rear brake shoe differences ??

What's the difference between the 2" wide and 2-3/4" wide rear brake shoes..... does it correlate between the light or the heavy duty front rotors? Do the light duty fronts have the 2" rear shoes and the wider heavy duty fronts have the 2-3/4" rear shoes? Please help me figure this out.

Exactly I believe heavy duty code is JB5. Master cylinder is also different as i discovered when replacing mine.

Off the subject I know, but whatever size shoes you buy I would strongly consider staying away from the Centric brand. I bought Centric shoes for my 2002 Cavalier beater and they quickly lost their arc. Meaning, they quickly distorted and did not conform to the arc of the drums. This causes the car to come to a chattering, intermittent stop. If I slam on the brakes at 35 mph or more and engage the anti lock brakes, then the shoes will stop without skipping for a while. It is very irritating, and I will probably replace them with Delco shoes soon.

So - regarding your original question the answer for you is "yes".

Small rotors with 2" shoes go on JB1 (manual) and JB3 (the smallest power system).

Big rotors and 2-3/4" shoes start at JB5 (the highest production volume system for a 1/2 ton).

There is a "hybrid" version with big rotors and 2" rears for JD5 (hydroboost, with diesel) but you probably don't care about that one - other than to know that such an animal exists.

(C10 shortboxes are my "spec-i-al-ity").

Keith-

Any chance you can post those specs for the K20/30 models for 85 year?

I'm currently preparing to swap in some 1-ton axles from a cucv into my 85 K20 in addition to swapping from auto to manual and vacuum to hydro-boost.

The rear is a 14ff with 13 inch brakes, the front is a dana 60. That document would sure help me out in identifying the M/C, pedal ratio, brake size, etc.

I really appreciate it if your able too!
