Fuel leak from fuel filter and hose

Hey everyone, I am getting a fuel leak from the rubber hoses above and below the fuel filter and fuel filter itself. This has happened twice now and both times it is after the truck has sat for a month or more due to the rain. Normally I pump it twice and she fires right up, with the cold it takes 3 pumps and it starts, but then it leaks. Once it is warm, I can start it and drive it all day with no leaks.

Re: Fuel leak from fuel filter and hose

There are no rubber hoses with filters on these trucks as designed. There is an all-steel line that runs from the fuel pump to the Quadrajet built-in filter housing. I learned shortly after joining the forum and posting one of my first questions that the fuel line must be all metal after the fuel pump or there is chance of fire. So, I got rid of the rubber hose and external filter on the high pressure side of the pump on my truck. The only rubber hoses are to join cab to frame steel line, and frame steel line to fuel pump.

You can form a very nice all-steel line by getting a 30 inch or longer brake line from the parts store. The parts store also has a flare kit and tubing bender they loan for free with a small deposit. According to the Haynes repair manual, short pieces of hose can be used in the steel line to attach a filter, but I believe that was written before modern fuels were formulated that are especially bad for rubber, so I no longer trust hose of any kind on the high pressure side of the fuel pump.

Yes, exactly. That's the stuff I don't use on my truck on the high pressure side of the pump any more.
