70 GMC C15 Unique bench seat?
I recently pulled my bench seat out of my 1970 GMC and decided to pull back the black seat cover to see what I would find. I was happy to see what appeared to be the original seat cover. Unfortunately the cover and foam are pretty wasted. I have been trying to find someone that sells the seat cover with the cloth insert and the scroll work in the vinyl. I have found some that are all vinyl with the scroll work but no cloth insert. I have found some with the vinyl cloth insert but not the scroll work. I have also found some with the scroll work on both sides of the cloth in the vinyl but none that have just the scrolling in the middle section only between the cloth inserts. Any one seen this seat cover before and where to get it?

Could you have the vinyl saved, and maybe just the cloth replaced?

I had not thought of that. Thanks for the idea! I'll have to take the bottom cover off and see how the vinyl looks.

Re: 70 GMC C15 Unique bench seat?
It looks like the previous owner may have replaced the major (non-scroll) part of the seat.
This was done to a highlander that I had years ago....so it retained its original (vinyl) scroll portion, but the inner fabric was newer and different than the original houndstooth material. That said, the scroll work vinyl you have their may be part of a highlander option that could be on your truck....because that is the highlander style of scroll work. There is a very good upholstery guy on the website here ('Truckseats') who can supply everything you need there. Does your truck still have its original SPID (build sheet) in the glove box?....if so post it up and we can start there. My two bits. Coley

Re: 70 GMC C15 Unique bench seat?
I'll post the SPID tonight but it is a little hard to read. All the seats with the scroll work I have found have the scroll work on either side of the cloth. Mine only has scroll work on the middle. I have not seen that type of cloth on the seats. I just figured it was a GMC thing. Tonight I'll look closer to see if there are signs of the cloth being replaced. Thanks for the referral. I'm still in the planning stages of rebuilding the bench. Just from the feel of it the seat cushion will need to be replaced as well as the back cushion.

After more searching found these 2 posts. Both are old so some people may not be around. Looks like Custom or custom deluxe seat. ss tim custom deluxe, blazerman, and buckola had a GMC Custom.

Re: 70 GMC C15 Unique bench seat?
After looking at these pics in the 2 posts, it looks like the cloth is all the same. Mine looks different so thinking someone did change out the cloth.

SMS fabrics in Canby, Oregon can help with your seat material. Just depends on how original and how much you want to spend.
The inner material was not very strong. http://67-72chevytrucks.com/vboard/s...d.php?t=693039 |
