Holes in top of dash

New member! 1955 1st. Series What are the two holes on top center of dash? They look like factory threaded holes.

that does have a factory look..but I've never seen any like that before..but spacing does look about right for old school c.b. mount..

Re: Holes in top of dash

if that's a c.b. mount some one took some real time making it right. most guys would drill 2 holes & use a nut & bolt. Does look like there is some filler around the hole.

Re: Holes in top of dash

electric windshield wiper motor...The vac motor did not have the two screws through the dash. Your truck would have originally had two big chrome headed phillips screws in those holes.

Re: Holes in top of dash

I just went thru my factory assembly manual and there's no mention of electric wiper.the bracket for the wiper is welded to the underside of the dash and hangs down about 2-3 inches...there's no mention of anything mounting in that area..I wonder if it might be a mount for a dash fan..I've seen many a old grain truck with a dash mounted fan although I don't think they were factory

Re: Holes in top of dash

Rare enough that the majority of us would have never seen one with the screws in place I'd think.

That one is VCCA reference truck shot through window showing the chrome head screws.
http://s1295.photobucket.com/user/gr...8zdi9.jpg.html and this is the page from the Factory Assembly Manual showing the electric wiper motor option.

Re: Holes in top of dash

Thanks everybody for the great help! You are absolutely right it holds the electric wipers motor. If I had reached up in there from underneath I would have figured that out and not wasted everybodies time. I searched all over for dash pics with those holes and could not find any. Thanks again for your knowledge!

Re: Holes in top of dash

For your 55 1st series ( which is essentially a 54 with open driveshaft, different grille accent colors, and slightly different hood side ornaments) you might check Tim Lederman's site. http://www.1954advance-design.com/ Tim is an absolute purist so don't expect any info on a smallblock or adding A/C. But it is a very good source for factory info.
