I may have to place a bid on them if Wes (truck hippy )isnt going to place another bid.The way i figure It by the time I find a 72 4x4 the hooks will be bringing $400-$500 LOL

that's the style i have on my trucks and definitly the harder style to find. of all the hooks i've had over the years, i would get 3 or four sets of the common style to every one set of the style on ebay. good luck, Wes.

It had to be cheaper to build that style, because you only had to have one casting, instead of the others with a LH & RH.

Pickmup, I was thinking the same thing. Just change them a little so you wouldn't get in trouble with patent laws.

i think they have a legitimate black market appeal. someone took mine

probably laughed all the way to the bank after they paid the p/o $10 for them. it seems everyone has to put them on their truck nowadays, the next "cool" fad to follow a/c, tilt, tach, vac, speedwarning, buckets. they do look cool, and they are useful. wish i had em there for the winter when i know i will have to pull people out of ditches. if i ever get a set, i'm gonna sleep with them on my nightstand until i put them on my truck, and they will be bolted & tack welded in place so no one can help themselves to a set. grrr

At these prices, it's only a matter of time that they are re-popped in China and sell for $20. Making a casting and casting these dudes would not be that expensive but the originals will still be worth more--but perhaps not the outrageous prices they are bringing today. My .02

Sure! BUT the repops MUST be significantly cheaper than the originals, ie $40 tops.

I say make 500 per year and charge $150. That's $75,000.00 per year minus costs of production. Of course board members get them at cost plus 20%. It has potential for some short term gains, but once the market is saturated, sales may be minimal.

Let's find out what it will cost for mold and machines and material.

I never thought a business could be born on a BB, but hey, why not?

In most cases a good rule of thumb to begin with on repro parts is one half the cost of premium/NOS/rare prices. They could probably sell for $100-$150 a pair, but I would be surprised if there is really enough market to support the tooling costs. They are a great fad, but are there hundreds of people ready to buy? ...or can they be made really cheap? If so, go for it!

I hope that before anyone trys to make these by casting them, they check out the part more carefully. If you notice the parting line, you can tell that these parts were forged and not cast.

Forged steel is a lot stronger and forging is a more expensive process. I doubt if a cast part would last very long!

It wouldn't cost a dollar more to make them, but they would SELL for more just because some people appear to be willing to waste $100 - $150 on them.

dtlilly, Your right! There is a R & L and someone is going to be very disappointed after spending $265.00 just to find out later that he bought (2) of the same thing and now has to search for a mate to make a pair.

I think part of the appeal of tow hooks is that they are hard to find, plus they do look awful tough mounted on the front of a 4x4

I've heard alot of guys on here say how stupid it is to spend so much on a pair of old tow hooks, but yet an old tach out of a 2 ton truck will still bring around 200.00 even though they have been reproduced for years now.

I just got a 1971 suburban dealer order form off ebay and it lists the tow hook option for 19.00
