What's worth saving.

Definitely don't want it to turn to a "for sale " thread as that is against the rules and not what I'm looking for. I got the truck mainly for the straight bed for another project and getting ready to start cutting up what's left for scrap. I have pulled the high hump and the a few other parts but not sure what's worth my time to pull off and list for sale. I work a lot and in the middle of building a shop so my time is limited. But like most of us I feel a certain duty to keep these old trucks alive and I know there are still parts that people need. Looking for the guys that part these out on a regular basis and know what parts I should pull. The cab is rusty.....at least for a oregon truck and it has no title. Hence the need to pull it apart and send it to China.

Looks awful nice to cut up. Why not just sell the whole cab. If you do cut it up I'd be interested in both sides above the door channel where the seal gets clued in.

it lasted almost 50 years give it away if you don't have time to pull the $2,000.00 in parts I see there ...

Grumpy old man.......thats why I asked.....im a bit of a hoarder but my wife keeps me in check...i guess I will start pulling stuff and listing it......just wanted the motivation I guess...

bingo. $2,000 in parts but lots of time involved. depends on which is more valuable to you...

I don't see any rust on that cab from what I can see. What does it have a pin hole in the rocker or something

You guys out west have it too easy.

Your best bet is too pull what YOU want from it and off it as one peice.

Or if you don't have the time now push it aside for when time is available.

Even a new shop needs some old junk laying around. It's not a shop if it dont.

One thing about parting out cars is it is a lot of work. If your not up for that maybe contact Chevy Metal in Vancouver or Classic Bowtie in Portland, or Old Car Parts in Portland and see if you can make a deal for cash or parts. Less payoff but less work.

Get it all pulled apart and figure out what you will have time (or ability) to ship and what you won't before you start listing anything or you will be in over your head before you know it.

Make a thread parting it in the fs section people will come out of the woodwork buying stuff then scrap what's left in a month you'll be able to clear a few hundred if your busier than that'll be worth while put it up free on this board someone will snag it up

IMO, everything good enough for a driver truck to can clean up like new, including hardware. Considering your time, you might consider selling as one piece.

see guys like this all the time the more trucks they cut up the less there will be.The next Gen will never own these trucks.Such a shame.I had a friend that got into this business of taking all of these old trucks back in 1980--97 and worked on them and put them back on the road.We have way to many guys buying nice trucks and parting them out or cutting them up.In about 5 years or less most of you that cut up these trucks will think back and say i had some cherry trucks and i wasted away for nothing.I have a guy that has a Numbers matching 1969 Z28 4 speed car He went and gutted it in 1980 turned it in to a drag car No dash no more factory front sheet metal sold the DZ302 motor for 500.00 and the 4 speed for another 500 bucks sold the 12 bolt posi put a roll cage in.He still has the car I go over there and sit on his back step and look at this master peace that is only worth what ever old drag car's are worth now day at 5-8K to a car that is worth 90K.So you guys keep cutting up these trucks No more future for the younger Gen of old car and trucks drivers.Bunch of butchers

A few weeks ago I started a similar thread about what to do with cast-off parts rather than tossing and we came up with start a pay it forward thread. I just haven't done it yet. In your case, with no time to pick apart, I'd offer it up for price of scrap to someone who does have that time. It seems there is someone somewhere who wants what you don't. No reason to toss anything.

I recycle everything I possibly can ,either take to swap meets and sell or offer it for free on various sites Im on .I hate to see any part go to scrap that someone can use ,I guess that is why my shop is so cluttered .I gave some wheels away yesterday to a friend in need .

If the eastern guys see $2k in parts there you may be better off shipping it there lol I see a $150 3/4 frame, $600-800 cab complete, $50 trans and that's about it out here on the west coast depending on condition lol Just toss in on CL and try to sell it complete, less wasting time with guys who just want small parts unless you have the space & time to fully strip it & keep the parts that wont sell.

^^^All but the jaded see value in parts and parts trucks north, south, east, and west. Lots of parts sold here shipped from the east to the west. You missed the 3.54:1 Dana 60 rear. That is a hot item right there in Oregon. More older trucks in the west that could use the disc brake set-up on their earlier 8-lugger. The dual exhaust hngers sell quick for decent money. Plenty of parts on there for people to want, no matter where they are.

Depends on your market, and what they are worth though. I've parted out a lot of these trucks here in BC and most small items don't sell for much and it's not worth the hassel. And if you post a 3/4T chassis complete and ask more than $200 be prepared to watch it sit for years lol Most guys buy complete trucks or only ever buy sheet metal parts up here it seems. Sometimes small parts sell though. Suburbans are so "rare" aka undesirable and not often built that I've sat on frames, doors, glass & hatches for years lol Pretty sure I still have a rust free rear hatch setup, but I scrapped all my rust free doors.
