Re: 64 made2drag c10

I've been asking car guys in the area if anyone knew of a 64-66 c10 really cheap. Ran into a guy who has one and knew of a parts truck. He said it was a 3/4 ton and thought it would be going to scrap soon due to nothing really left on it to part out. Come to find out, I knew the owner from swap meets and car cruises and he was excited that he finally found someone to show it some appreciation. I basically bought the door and got the rest for free. LOL. He says no hurry to pick it up and haul it home, so all I have are pics at the moment. He said it was a 64...the vin in the door opening above the door hatch is in the 64 only spot. I was so excited I didn't even look or take a pic of the vin.

Re: 64 made2drag c10

Needless to say, I will be accruing parts over the next couple of years in order to put this one together. Plans will be a 5 lug disc conversion with a 5/6 drop and shortening the frame and most likely making it a rough driver. 350/3 speed or might do an auto. Wont be anytime soon though. Check back in a few years! LOL

With tires in that shape it is definitely made to drag. Sorry I couldn't resist.

That is definitely a project but I have seen people start with worse.

Yeah, I thought my 56 was bad. At least it came with parts.

The reason I liked this truck is:

No one wanted it because it was long bed and 8 lug. So I got it really cheap.
I'm going to do a ball joint out 5 lug disc conversion anyway.
Its ready for wire brushing and painting the frame.
I can do a new bumper and grille and new fleet bedsides and find stock hood and clip pieces.
The cab seems to be in really good shape for being 53 years old. 2 cab corners and a rocker and maybe some floor patches...

If it were a stock stepper with a straight 6 and 6 lug, it would be changed anyway. Less work, really. Im happy!

Re: 64 made2drag c10

I don't think you can press in a lower balljoint that will accept a 1/2 ton dropped spindle. The C20 lower control arms as well as the entire front crossmember are different than the C10 components. I have never tried a C10 balljoint in a C20 lower control arm, but I am pretty sure the hole in the control arm is too big.

LOL, I like that! When I pick it up, the dude says he can use his forklift to place it on the car trailer! When it's home, we will have to tie it to a tree and yank it off. LOL

Re: 64 made2drag c10

And seeing your post.... it just hit me its a c20... any other differences between the c20 and c10 once the crossmember is changed and the rear end and springs are changed?

Re: 64 made2drag c10

Also, can anyone tell from the pics if that is a fleetside bed front panel? The poison ivy kept me from walking around the truck and the dude had some many cars and trucks that distracted me away after I shook hands on the truck, knowing I was 100% buying it. The cab and frame looked excellent from where I stood.

Re: 64 made2drag c10

Aside from the slightly thicker frame, the rear cab mounts are different and there are braces from the trailing arm crossmember over to the frame.

It's hard to tell in the pics but that front bed panel does appear to be for a fleetside. However the bed cross sills that are on the frame are for a stepside.

I saw that! Come to think about it, I didn't ask about ignition key either! I know those as easily changed but I was so excited I could buy it and it is only 5 miles away and happens to be a good friend of my friend who is gonna tow it for me.

Plus, just the front bed panel would cost me more than I bought everything for. Definitely getting fleet bedsides!
