Throttle Cable Knob

Hello all. This is probably an easy question for you guys. I am missing what I believe to be the throttle cable knob in the dash on my 1957 3100 (see photo below). Since I have an LS1 I do not really need this for functionality, but I do not like having an empty hole there. All of the aftermarket throttle cables obviously have the cable attached. Rather than paying a little more for this one and having to clip the cable, can I buy the cheaper headlight knob that has the rod on it? It looks like it will need to have a rod to fit and I was wondering if the rod on the headlight knob fits the hole. If not, can you give me a link on brothers to an alternative knob? Thanks a bunch.

Re: Throttle Cable Knob

Could you not use a plug like this? Just paint it and push it in..

Re: Throttle Cable Knob

I suppose you could, but I prefer the look of a knob.

Re: Throttle Cable Knob

Gotcha..I didn't realize the hole was up in the middle of your dash..I was thinking it was down on the lower part of the dash..cigarette lighter maybe? Whatever you chose it does need to kinda match your other knobs

Re: Throttle Cable Knob

Brothers list just the chrome knob item number RKS5559 for $6.99 or the whole throttle cable with chrome knob for $17.99 I used the whole cable and looped it under dash so if I ever needed the cable to operate something in the future it was there.

Re: Throttle Cable Knob

There is a black bushing for the throttle cable that fits in the hole in the dash. I used a throttle knob and a section of a chop stick. MM, I know! But its been good for 4 years....

Re: Throttle Cable Knob

Starterman, I see the throttle knob without the cable you are talking about o Brothers. Will it work without a rod? I'm not sure I understand how it will fit in the small hole as it looks wider. I must be missing something.

Re: Throttle Cable Knob

This is the knob and cable:

It feeds into the dash. The nut is removed unscrewing then by sliding it down the cable. The cable is then passed through the dash and the nut is slid back up the cable housing from the engine end. There is a shoulder that stops the cable from passing all the way through the dash. If the hole in the dash is too large then someone has made a modification. You will need to find another solution.

BTW, that cable picture comes from this site:
