Air Flow
First off, please don't tell me to stick a mechanical fan and shroud back on...With that said large single 16" with shroud electric or dual 12" with shroud for 500HP. No AC but will have both trans and oil coolers in front of it. Lets amend that and say AC in the future if I decide to go on Anti Tour.

I'm running a dual 12" setup with my aluminum radiator for my LS swap. The fans were wired up so I have one coming on regularly and the other one comes on if the temp warrants it.
I do have a manual but I have no problems keeping my setup cool with the single 12" fan so I would think you would be good either way.

Well, the issue with the mechanical fan is shown quite well on Motor Trend [Engine Masters Series] where the take a mild 350 and mount the various fans with shrouds to see how much power they eat.

Interesting test but did you notice how little difference in hp there was at the rpm you'll be doing your normal driving. Down at 2500 rpm or less.
And if they had let the clutch fan heat up like it would normally I'd bet it wouldn't consume hardly any hp. Not that you'd feel in your butt! And how much power does your big electric consume. LIkely the same at that rpm. And if your big electric fan can't keep it cool and your temp climbs you'd see a bigger hp loss. Electric might be superior at 5000 rpm but how often do you run there. |
