strut springs often are broken or missing all together . I don't know why they don't include them is the combination kits. |

Re: 1959 chevy truck rear brake strut spring
I'm thinking that most of them are close enough to the same over the years to work. Meaning that a trip to the wrecking yard and finding a Chevy Pickup that is a bit newer but not too new should produce one if the brake parts are still on it.
O'Reilly's shows one for Chevy cars but it doesn't say it fits trucks. http://www.oreillyauto.com/site/c/de...patibilityTab_ Cheap enough to gamble on though. Here: Classic parts has the proper one. http://www.classicparts.com/1951-87-.../#.WUFBjMa1vv8 According to the not on the bottom of that page the one in the O'Reilly's link will work fine. and you should be able to order it if they don't have it and have it in on the next truck. They also show the spreader bar that goes with it that guys are always hunting.

I tried the part number from oreilys but the diameter was to small
The employee found these but they are for a different model Cadillac they are longer the original one looks cut hopefully they work. Any suggestions? |

That looks a lot closer to the one shown on the Classic parts site.

Re: 1959 chevy truck rear brake strut spring
Did you try NAPA? They usually have a cabinet behind the counter will all sorts of brake parts. You would be surprised that a lot of the high dollar specialty vendors parts are available over the counter much cheaper at NAPA or other good parts houses. Key is to find someone trained old school and not reliant on model and make to enter into the computer. The local store was told to toss the parts manuals when they converted to computer, the guys hid them under the counter.
Also, Jim Carter is one of the oldest truck parts providers, 40 years ago he was stocking NOS parts before a lot of the current guys were even in business.
