15" 6 lug ralleye questions - The 1947 - Present Chevrolet & GMC Truck Message Board Network

Hey gang,

I'm going to look at a set of 15" ralleye wheels tonight off a mid 70's 4x4. They're dark blue in color the guy says and they include trim rings and center caps. He didn't know off hand if they were 7" or 8" wide rims. Meaning the wheels are dark blue does that tell you guys anything? The guy wants $100 for all 4. I think that's steep for a used ralleyes that are going to need to be repainted. What is everyone's opinion? I want to replace the skinny 15 x 6's that originally came on my truck, like in the pic below.

I believe all the 6 lug rally's were 8 inches wide.

Do you think that 8" wide ralleyes will be a bear to turn with manual steering and a big block sitting up front? I took my 15" woodgrain steering wheel out of my truck for that same reason. Too hard to steer! I was thinking a 7" wheel would be perfect. But 8"'s will handle better I'm sure. I already installed my front swaybar

It's only the 1 1/16" bar but it made a difference! How many of you guys are running a 8 in wide rim with a stock wheel and manual steering? Just curious............

What about $75? That wouldn't be too big of a slap in the face for someone selling them would it?

I'm going to go look at them tonight and we'll see how clean they are.

I've run them on two different trucks without power steering, with no complaints.

In this area, 100 is a steal for 6 lug rallys. I've sold lots for 150-175 a set.

TX, those wheels you sold, did they have to be repainted or were they mint ones. I'll have to repaint these BLACK to match my truck.

I paid $100 just for new rings. The metal center caps were a ***** to find (don't buy the plastic ones). I got my 8" rallyes powder coated for $200. They look great. I ran them on my truck without power steering for 2 years. I just put power steering on, it's much nicer now.

Don't quibble about the asking price, if they are complete, they are worth it.

I don't know of any 6 lugs that were anything other than 8" wide. I ran them on my truck with 275/60 and no power. If you do a lot of low speed or city type driving, your arms will get a workout, but nothing that would make me go to a skinnier wheel. I love the difference they make in handling and road feel.

BTW $100 is a good price fro the wheels in our area, with or without rings and caps.

My friend took a pair of his '86 K10....they are 15x8 six lug.

I'm sure he would sell them....they are in OK shape and are located in southern Missouri.

Geez, if he's asking $100 for them, that means he'll settle for $75. I'd at least try it. The worst thing that could happen is you get them for $100 which is still a good deal.

$100 is a pretty good deal for four rims if they need paint or not.

They not only needed repaint, they needed sandblasting to remove the rust. I still see dozens and dozens of these old 6 lug trucks every day on the road. I think the demand is greater in this area, so the wheels bring more cash.

$125 to 200 is the going price with caps and rings in Minnesota. $50 to 80 w/o caps and rings. Any less than that and I buy them just to have.."just-in-case" something needs a wheel.

We talked about it before too, Joe. For what it is worth. I think black wheels will get lost on a black truck. Something close to the factory argent silver will really look nice as an accent color.

100 bucks...heck, even I would buyt them at that price, and I'm the cheapest guy you'll ever meet.
The blue paint only says one thing...they've been repainted.
And while your truck looks pretty sweet, black rims would look like normal rims with a little trim on them...kinda like it does now. Paing them argent, and they'll stand out and chainge the whole immage...esp if you have white letter tires on them.
Oh, and a black big block SWB with rally wheels...SWEET combo.
