69 C10, F'N hot cab

Okay, I've had this truck for couple of years and it's got a 350 crate engine, stock tranny (granny 1st gear) and stock rear end. The thing that is driving me a bit nuts is that the cab gets super hot, especially in the summer.

I get that if it's summer the truck will feel hotter, but a lot of the heat is coming from under the dash. Feels as though the heater is on, when it's not. Any suggestions on what to do/look for?

I just put a ball valve under the hood myself. You can install it inline into either heater core hose. Turn it off in the summer, open in the winter. Problem solved.
There are some cheap plastic valves you can use, I put in a quality ball valve from the hardware store.

This.

Even after you do that, you may still get heat intrusion through the fire wall and front part of the floor.

No doubt stopping the heater from blowing hot air into the cab is going to make a large difference!!!

So I can put the ball valve in either the top or bottom line of the heater core that enters through the fire wall, right? If so I'll do that this week to cut down on the heat transferring...cuz man it's hot!!

Dude bypass the heater core completely if it is that bad.

You may have holes in your firewall that are letting heat right in or even the seal around the heater box is bad. And I bet you don't have carper or any insulation.

I use one of these on my '70 Corvette.

Just google heater hose shut-off.

Do you have your kick panel vents open to let fresh air in? Best course of action would be to disassemble your heater and fix it right. It's probably full of mouse nests and won't let the diverter door close.

Yea buddy, those little critters make a mess of things. Combine that with other issues and its a small hell unto itself.

You may also have a circulation issue under the hood, check fan shroud, fan blades for proper spacing from radiator.

A clogged heater core will reap all kinds of havoc also.

Re: 69 C10, F'N hot cab

Thanks guys for all the replies...the fan shroud is fine and fitted correctly, fan blades, spacing all appear to be okay.

Kick panels are both closed, I'll also check the heater diverter to see if it's closed all the way.

I'll install the heater hose shut off valves and I hope that helps.

Appreciate all the help here fellas!!
