Frame and Exhaust

Hey lads and lasses,

I've seen a thread related to this before, but can't find it now... I'd like to get anyone's input on cutting holes in the frame crossmember to put exhaust through rather than under the frame... I am just months away (!) from sandblasting and powdercoating the frame and want to have this done first...

How big should the holes be? What is the best way to strengthen the frame afterward?

Thanx in advance...

I put 4.5 collar in the trailing arm crossmember and a 3.5 collar in the panhard bar crossmember. I haven't got to run my exhaust yet, so I can't give you any detail on how it is going to work out. I'm not far away though. I tried to set it up for oval-off set-off-set mufflers. Pretty crowded where it going through the rear crossmember and the gastank. Still kicking around the idea of solid mounts with stainless steel flex hose after the headers. Hope the pic helps, Danny

Last year somebody had some very good frame only (no bed or cab) pictures of frame with the exhaust routed through the crossmember on a truck he/she was restoring. I have searched for these pictures but have not been able to find them.

If anybody has a link to the pictures I sure would like to see them again.

Thanks, Litdave
