Hood Letter Set Placement
Anybody have the correct placement measurements for the "CHEVROLET" letters that go on the hood of a 1968 Chevrolet C10? Mine will have the complete trim around the eyebrows of the headlights, and the strip that goes across the bottom of the hood, but I don't have the measurements for placement of the chrome letters. Anybody have them? Also, advice for how to space, and make the holes.
Thanks in advance!! |

Re: Hood Letter Set Placement
This has been discussed before and I think the consensus was that it's easiest to just get a template from an original hood. There is a thread here where someone details a template that they made. I think I remember reading in another post somewhere that he still has the template and would send it out to anyone who needs to borrow it, but don't quote me on that. Otherwise, you'll have to find someone with an original hood to make you a template. I have a'68 hood with letters, and would be willing to give it a try, but it would just be one made from template paper, not aluminum like the one linked above. There's also another thread here where someone gives the measurements for where the holes are if you want to try that method, but it seems prone to error.

Re: Hood Letter Set Placement
hewittca: Thanks for the reply. I have read both threads now. I appreciate the direction. I have the measurements, but guess I really need to check the hood as it's aftermarket. I hope it has the holes for mounting in the back, never actually thought about that before. If not, I'll have to find an original hood, which I actually think I know where one is. I was going to simply mount a guide to the hood, and then cover the hood with masking tape. For the actual holes, I figured I would dip the back of the letters in an ink pad and then press them against the tape on the hood. That should make a nice imprint of the mounting studs, and then if I know the spacing, can drill the holes. That was my thought. A template would be nice though. Thanks for your help!!!
