Need 454 Advice
I have a 1987 2wd 3+3 dually I am working on. When I bought it it had blown head gaskets. I pulled the the top end with the original plan of going through the heads only and putting it back together.
Now that I have it all pulled apart I am more inclined to just rebuild the whole motor. My second plan was to rebuild the entire motor and bring up the stock 7.75:1 compression to 9:1 with domed 18cc pistons. As well as a Lunati cam/lifters and stage 2 level 6 TBI chip from tbichips.com. But now I am doubting my self again as a newer vortec 454 just came available to me. Don't know what it would take to make it work in my tbi ran truck though. Any advice would be appreciated on which of the three options you would suggest I should go with. 1) put the heads back on the stock motor and be done with it 2) rebuild the stock motor with performance add-ons (dome pistons, cam, chip) 3) figure out how to swap the vortex motor in.

Re: Need 454 Advice
I'd be tempted to put the Vortec in it - roller cam, better heads, etc. I might opt for a carb. instead of getting the fuel injection to work, though, but that's me. Vortec 454's ain't weak sauce.
